At this point, seeing that I am 30+buy-ings below EV, these sort of things are just par for the course. Can't really blame villain here and I certainly am not folding. It is what it is. The issue for me is that when these sort of bad-beats happen it always seems to be in a huge pot - but on the rare occasion that I suckout on a villain it seems like it is always for 30bb at most.

This one hurt a because after rebuying I went on a heater over a few hands where I made 150bb - would have been a much bigger win if I had the 270bb I should have had when it began!

why the min 5 bet? why would you give him any chance to outplay you on the flop?

5 bet larger but consider folding against a 6 bet. As played fold flop. It's not worth it to risk your stack.

I am not sure, I cannot remember the details of the villain and Poker Stars doesn't record villain name in hand history. Likely I planned to get it in on the flop pretty much no matter what but I didn't want the villain to fold out worse hands. If he has AA so be it - if he has anything less I am happy to get it in with basically a pot sized bet left vs anything but an A high flop.

Ya, that stuff happens. I got it in with KK on a turn of a dry board, only to get called by 88 that hits a set on the river.

Let me guess - you raised in EP, everyone folded and villain called in the blinds?

Non 3bet pots are treacherous for big pocket pairs!

Don't remember the details, but I usually raise $25 preflop in these games with KK+ and still get 2-3 callers. Then a bit less than pot on the flop and half-pot on the turn. The guy hit his 1 in 20 (well 2 in 44, still 5%) shot, that's all.

While I don't like it when that stuff happens, by the end of the game they almost always lose and I usually finish a small loser, or a small winner. So, ultimately, it doesn't bother me that much anymore.

For sure, I never get too upset at these sort of things because you know their stupid decisions will fatten your pocket in the long run. The annoying one is when they show up for 5 hands, crack your aces with 4-2 offsuit and then leave right after!
