I dated Ako for a while, but she would always let me down when we were paired up on the boardwalk and something more shapely would set her up with a cooler or two. GL

A trap is making your opponent believe you would 'never' have a hand in a spot where you are playing like you do have a hand. A bluff is where you need to make your opponents think you 'always' have a hand in a spot where you are playing like you 'do' have a hand. PHellmuth is always talking about traps, but in a lot of cases he is just playing a tight-passive game and waiting for 'that Flop' where his and his opponents ranges both collide and his opponent bets into him ... as he has in previous hands ... and then PH can then raise or c/c for value and hope to get more chips in one hand than what he's given up in the previous 6 hands.
You want to talk trap? Here's a trap and I lost the hand!! (1/2 FR, semi-deep)
1) I get KK in MP and want to raise, but I see that Nit UTG has limped and that usually means QQ+/AK/AQ ... so I limp and 6 of us see the Flop.
2) Flop is J88, checks around ... pot is still $12.
3) Turn 4 (now J884r), UTG reaches for chips, but I reach for chips also and make some noise with them. UTG notices and checks .. I check ... EVERYONE checks.
4) River 3 ... UTG bets out $6 ... I grab about $45, cut, recut .. kind of bounce in my seat a little and then push out the call.
5) B and SB fold and before UTG can turn his Aces over I say "How are those Aces working for you? Enjoy your $18." while I flip over my KK.
6) UTG rolls eyes and shows the AA and the table erupts .. even the dealer made a comment that his day was now 'complete'.
UTG rakes in his 'winnings' and promptly cashes out within the next orbit not to be seen for 2 weeks. UTG plays for a living and is a daily reg in the room!!
Now was that a trap? ... I used his own range against him in order to lose the minimum (and make a point). Everyone at the table except UTG kind of figured out what was going on during the Turn action when I gave off the reverse betting tell to keep UTG from betting so I could 'trap' him on the River with just a call!! Can a trap be so obvious? You be the judge, you asked for the story!! GL

I just got off work as a restaurant manager its about 3am I decided to go play some late night 5/10. First hand get pocket 10s10d I brought in for $1700. They seem to be playing soft so I shove Of course I get called and with AQo and they hit the A on the turn. Feeling a little flustered and with nothing to do mind you Im 24 and I do have a decent bankroll so I rebuy for 2000. Im sitting at the table playing tighter than fish nanny. People at the table are starting to fall asleep seat 1 and 2 talking a lot of trash to each other 3 looks like he just got up 4 has his head resting 6 has his head tilted back gone 7 is just laughing and 8 is playing tight 9 that's me and 10 just left. I usually tell myself that saying that Doyle B. says on Poker After Dark about if lady luck doesn't let you in you gotta find another way so I was like f*** predetermined this next hand was mines and I was ready to go the distance so it seat 2 is the sb it has been limped for 10 until 6 folds it gets to me I re raise to $35. Seat one starts with his commentary and calls 2 calls (Says "you aint got s*** Bluffin A**) 3 calls 4 folds 7 calls and 8 calls
Pre Flop pot I $220 and Im in the cut off... I never mentioned I have 29 suited diamonds but like I said I had enough of them talkin and no money coming my way lol.
Flop: 10s 3c Qd
so it gets check all around to me I know in my heart there is no way to win this pot but to bet so I try to finesse I bet 125. Everyone calls me Im like WTF am I doing why am I doing this but Im in there I was this pot. So I consider I got a back door flush and 3 to a straight trying to reason with myself that Im doing the right thing lol.
Turn comes a 9h it gets check around to me again so Im like no one can have anything or because Im being s aggressive someone is taking advantage of me betting but if I slow down I show weakness and wth I just improved and now I have a pair. So I go a little harder and I bet 750 trying to get everyone to fold. Seat 1 and 2 do exactly as I need them too seat 3 thinks about it for a while then calls me Im ready to faint 7 folds 8 looks a me and says ah ha and calls.
River: Someone was looking out for me I guess "poker gods" 9s peels off on the river. My reaction I know has everyone at the table believing that im bluffing but it gets checked to me again so I know Im in control with trips so I shove $822 and pick up my phone as if im disinterested and I got this pot seat 3 just stares at me in complete disbelief like there is no way im ahead of him he calls after 8 is like I got this and he calls. I just looked up and out of respect for seat 3 I apologize and flip 29sd his jaw drops and seat 8 oh man if he could've flipped the table he would have seat 3 later admitted he had AQo and seat 8 shows pocket KK throws a complete temper tantrum at the table and leaves lol. It was the best trap Ive ever set no one not even myself saw it coming. lol
