I know there is variance in poker, especially no limit online. I have been playing for 3 months with a high of 400BB added to my bank roll. But I am now back to the same bank roll as 3 months ago. Do I just concede that I am a marginal player?

In "Confessions of a Winning Poker Player," Jack King said, "Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career." It seems true to me, cause walking in here, I can hardly remember how I built my bankroll, but I can't stop thinking of how I lost it.

Acknowledging the negativity/pain bias, but I remember a lot of my big pots won as well as lost. Maybe not as often ... but they don't disappear until I get "Old Timer's," I don't think.

How many hands have you played and what amount of work have you done off table to improve?

It depends on what you play. As an MTT player, I'm break even, despite winning 1-10 adj bb/100 every 100k hands. I'll never run good enough to win a lot of money in MTT's. I've spent thousands on coaching and solvers. It won't matter, they are all luck.

Playing cash is so much easier. You find the stakes you can beat and start beating them. Moving up is simply a bankroll matter. The games don't get any harder. A good player will always be winning in cash games, the variance is much less. You can be a great player and loss forever in MTT's.

Play cash, the downswings are nothing compared to MTT's and its way easier to study for.

I play golf but too much variance with these huge courses and small holes. Maybe I'll switch to minigolf

They're trying to goad me, trying to own me. But this isn't a gunfight. It's not about pride or ego. It's only about money. I can leave now, even with Grama and KGB... and halfway to paying Petrovsky back. That's the safe play. I told Worm you can't lose what you don't put in the middle. But you can't win much either.
