Has anyone ever began their poker journey on a downswing?

I mean, when you finally get a roll established and game plan and finally decide to take a run at playing a lot, and immediately start running bad?

I know I'm only 3 buy-ins in the negative and I gave myself a decent bankroll to start, but damn, I didnt think my first downswing would be right out of the gate.

yes, yes, I know I'm being an idiot here, its just kinda funny how once I decide to really give it a go, as opposed to just playing once and while, I start off losing right away

honestly, I was just looking for someone to say, "Yeah that happened to me, when i first started I lost for a week straight."

I have a $5000 roll to start which should be plenty, it would just be a real hit to my confidence if I were to start off losing a grand and spent the first few weeks just getting back to square one

Lost 3 bis only when you started your "poker journey" seems like you already know what you did wrong m8.

I hear u on the mental burden losing can have when you first get going. I started playing 1/2 after having built a roll up from playing much lower stakes online. Even tho at the time losing the $3k wouldn't have meant anything from a financial point of view, it would have really hurt given al the work I'd put in to roll myself for 1/2.

I don't know if I would have continued at the start if lost half my BR, which would have been a real shame.

Keep plugging away and try not to think about being down $600-$900. Ur roll is now $4100.

Something I did at the start partly for fun and partly to cushion my short roll was to have a friend but 1/3 of my action. That way when I bought in for $200, only ~$134 of my roll was on the table. I thinks it's something I'll keep in place as I start to take the odd shot at 2/5.

Take breaks too if ur running bad / playing bad and think it's affecting ur mental game. Taking 2 weeks off will also get ur head out of trying to play catchup with lost buyins.

Good luck. If ur posting on 2plus2 you're instantly better that 80% of the 1/2 live field. You'll get it going soon.

Ive been playing poker for many years, ive always played a few times a month but this is my first stab at playing 25+ hours a week, hence the "poker journey" title. I made one bad shove that cost my one BI and I know I made a mistake, the second was just a cooler and the third i lost to a suckout.

I know coolers and suckouts are a part of the game and I know losing three BIs isnt sh*t when it comes to people who play seriously.

I just started this thread because I was honestly bummed out, lol,

Ive always been a winning player, I guess I was just surprised and bummed to start out with a few losses

Why don't you just pretend that this "journey" started earlier, while you were establishing your bankroll and apparently winning.

Or you can just realize that this is an obvious omen and you've made a terrible mistake.

No....... You've got it backwards. Pretend the first week didn't count, and start your "actual official poker journey" on Monday

That's puts a lot of pressure on him. What if he loses on Monday?

Let's at least backdate it to a winning week, start it off right.

If he loses Monday then it's just a practice day and he can start on Tuesday when he planning on playing really really serious this time

When I started playing live poker regularly, I won my first 14 sessions. But I also wear a rabbits foot around my neck at all times.
