I use PS but only if the background is transparent or has very few frames to remove backgrounds with, like I did with homer which is only a few frames repeating against your avatar gif, not sure how in gimp but if you want me to merge transparent ani gif with one of your background feel free to do so in this thread the avatar thread or a PM however I'm sure you mean multi-frame background removal like +10 is beyond me too, I remember you doing >20 frames it with Alizee and the Carlton Dance and yes very time consuming I'm not sure what used in big hollywood production there must be an easier way.

Alizee and Carlton were all white (or black) backgrounds; there you can work with the magic stick quit well. With Gap (Gimp plugin) you can alpha out a specific color (basically bluescreen) over all frames, but otherwise you gotta go hands on I guess.

But I was asking more about how to combine two gifs as FG/BG, i.e. shuffle the two frames-sets together, then pairwise merging them. In Gimp I have to do it piece by pice, although maybe you can automize it with a script.

I had a Flash Test License recently; there you can just layer the two over each other in the timeline, done. Is there something free that can do that?
