Hey fellow 2p2er's,

I just got back from Reno, and the Grand Sierra Resort/Casino.

I had my first big tournament victory when I snapped off Event #1, a 50K Guarantee which with 289 players created a prize pool of $56,066.

I was short-stacked early on, after got involved in a hand where I was bluffing (but actually ahead), and the guy just called when he rivered a straight to cripple me (~6,400 with average chip stack around 14,000). I made that guy a last-longer bet shortly after that hand. He actually had won numerous pots early on and had a stack around 19,000 when I offered him even money for $1,000. He at first declined, then offered a $100 sweat, which I quickly agreed to (even though I had not much more than 1/4 of his stack)

Side note: I actually busted this guy in 24th place

Anyways, at one point I check-raised all in in a limped pot with 53 off suit on an A 3 4 hh flop, and the limper called me. At first I thought I was drawing, but he actually held just a flush draw with J10 hh, and I doubled up.

After this hand, I regained confidence and continued to find good spots.

I was chip-leader for our flight going into the final day with $285,000. The chip leader for flight B, however held $550,000 !!

At the finale table, I was able to find good spots, and actually ran good in races for once in my life. My KQ off cracked AK s when he re-shoved from the BB, and I caught a Queen on the river...my A9 cracked the 10's of John Wallace , the former chip leader (who actually managed to get it in good every time in heads up situations , and he managed to get outdrawn almost every time) to send him home in 4th.

I did make some sick reads and some timely bluffs.

I was able to gain momentum short-handed after two interesting pots against a solid player named Shawn Daniels.

In one pot, I was able to float him and take a pot away on the river, after he raised my SB (I held 10 7 off) and I check-called an A99 2 spades flop, we checked the turn (don't remember what card) and I fired about 2/3 pot on the river.

The next hand we played, I held 44's in the SB, and we both checked a 5 Q 8 2 clubs flop, 7 turn I check-called, and a K spades river I checked and snap-called a decent sized bet of $117,000 into a pot of around 140,000, and he showed a busted club draw.

This helped me to gain confidence in my reads, and propel me to heads up play after knocking out Steven Mast in 5th and John Wallace in 4th.

Going into heads up play, we decided to take $10,000 savers off the top and play for the remaining $1,851....a choice I kind of regret.

I definitely felt that I was a favorite going into heads up play with "Crazy" Mike Hoang, but I decided to take some guaranteed money at this point.

We only played a few hands heads up ...maybe 10 or 12. We had both started with around $1,400,000, but I had surmounted a decent lead when this hand came up....

Blinds 3000/8000/16000

I limped in on the button with A4 offsuit. I wanted to disguise my ace, and he was very willing to 3 bet light as well, so I thought I'd see how much he liked his hand pre-flop.

He did 3 bet me to around 45,000, and I called.

flop 3 K 5 rainbow, and he quickly fired 67,000.

I called knowing I most likely had 7 outs.

Turn 2 diamonds, (BOOM! Game over I thought ), he bet, I raised, and he shoved. I snap-called with him drawing dead (KQ off), and that was that!

My hard work in the previous weeks preparing for this event had paid off, and I'll use this win to fund my next Poker trip

Oh, and I bought a new toy also....Suzuki GSF 1200 Bandit

I love how the entire forums thinks I'm a donk because I haven't binked a big major....
