Well I'm a little confused at the responses I've got so far, although I do like the picture of the cat.

I did think this was a funny story. I mean I've never seen anyone fold a $200 pot because they wouldn't call a $9 bet before the flop. This is unusual isn't it??? I haven't played much no limit, but I can't believe that Ernie folded because he got a sick read on me. Even if I have aces you have to make that call right?

The follow up to this story is that Ernie managed to get stuck about $300-$400 and then made a miraculous comeback as he became more intoxicated. When I left he claimed to be close to even or maybe $100 down. Of course he got tons of action and was in about every hand. Maybe that fold was part of his master plan all along....

For those of you who were commenting on the dealer (I think) here is my take on what happened. First of all the dealers can't accept tips by law and are paid a flat wage of about $10 an hour to deal in these charities. Second, in my opinion the dealer was not trying to harm me on purpose. There are a lot of inexperienced players who play in these events so he did what he thought was appropriate and was trying to protect the player. When Ernie said "no" after the dealer said "it's nine dollars more" he did stop for a second, and then I made eye contact and said "He folded." He gave Ernie the opportunity to correct his mistake, but in my opinion did not step too far over the line. If he had persisted in asking Ernie if he wanted to call then I would have been upset, but he did his job to protect the player without going overboard.

imo he had KK and after the action put you on AA and the other guy on KK and knew he had 0 outs. Standard laydown with pot odds of 20-1 and actual odds of 55-1.

Seriously though, the dealer was out of line. He isn't there to protect the players, and by protecting inexperienced players he IS trying to harm you. He's there to deal the cards; once a fold is announced it is binding and the dealer should oblige without influencing action.

it would appear that in 18 years of poker you have mastered the art of preflop raising. I myself like to bet 10x the bb with AK if its of matched suits or double red.

I only 6x mid pocket pairs and min raise with pairs 55 and below.

Open shove AA is a must to proctect/isolate.

Well played OP, your analysis is spot on. See you at the microstakes
Lol at someone who has never played live poker

way out of line by the dealer, but in these charity rooms they take anybody willing to deal for dealers, so many of them are learning on the fly. not like a casino at all. he probably didn't know better.

terrible fold btw, but it's happened to me online in a very similar way
