The only way to profit as a tournament player is thru VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME.
The only way to not go crazy over the loss of a huge key hand where you were a big favorite at some point in the hand (and this situation WILL occur multiple times in EVERY tournament you play if you go deep enough) is to have other tournaments going that require your attention. You will have no time to dwell on the variance.
Single-tabling MTT's and hanging on the result of every critical hand during a 6-to-12 hour MTT is the definition of insanity. It is the definition of masochism.
Good luck OP, it took me quite a while to understand this. Look at shaundeeb for example... he's certainly very good at the game, but he's not a God. He understands the math of most tournament situations and he's fearless at sticking his chips in the middle... but he suffers the same beats as the rest of us, I assure you. The difference? He's playing 10 events at a time, so when he gets felted in one he hardly notices and just moves on. And he never has to make posts like this one.
