I'm a live-streamer and recreational player who played a little bit back in 2010, and started again early December this year without much knowledge of the game.
My bankroll still had $1,000 from a few years ago, which I burned relatively quickly playing high stakes tournaments like the Sunday warm-up and $200-$500 6-max hypers (trying to chase losses from lower stake tournaments). One day before Xmas I had used up all my bankroll.
This year I received $500 from all my relatives and parents combined as presents for Christmas. I decided to give Poker one last shot and invested everything into a 6-max $500 tournament, which I won. With the $1,900 in my bankroll after the victory, I kept playing a combination of $30-$100 9 Hyper Sit'N'Gos and $200-$500 6 max. I experienced huge downswings, going up to $4,500, then down to $1,500, which made me sign up for $300 and $500 just to win my money back. At $4k, I decided to mix things up and play some tournaments. I got 3rd place in a $25 Hyper tournament with 800 players, winning another $1,800. Then I went back to $200, $300 and $500 hypers, achieving Platinum level on the way (on this day I made 5,000 VPP alone). After my bankroll was already around $7k, I decided to play some last tournaments. I had a good run in another $50 hyper with 300 players. In the heads-up, my opponent offered me a deal which I rejected. Few hands later he goes all-in with 88, I call with A7 and win first place for $2,600.
I was risking a lot, part of it was me wanting to play vs the best players on the highest stakes to improve my play. Part was the thrill of risking such big portions of my bankroll in a single tournament that could either be +$2,000 or destroy my bankroll.
In the hypers, sometimes I lost all-ins with AK vs weaker aces twice in a row, but there were also situations where the luck was on my side.
I'm probably going to cash out all winnings now (bankroll $8,200) and go back to streaming video games.
Proof it's me:
