People in Massachusetts are scratch ticket degens. I'd forgotten about that.

Dude in front of me had a $100 winner. He changed it for 3 x $30 tickets and a $10 ticket. The state makes a +40% ROI on these, more than twice as bad as Keno. I felt like saying, "Sir, do you play poker, and where, and when?"

The next lady in line dropped hundo on tickets and another $40 on numbers games.

Christmas presents, I guess. But the store had a whole wall of scratchies, and about 1/3 of them were $20 and $30. I swear they were mostly $5 and $10 the last time I paid attention.

So the state run slottery scams pay out less than when the mob ran the numbers. Of course. Then the proceeds are supposedly for educations and stuff, but the regular budgets for those are reduced to account for all the extra slottery tax income.
