My favorite 5/5 NLHE and 5/5 big O games have broke, so I am a the 1/2 table. It is a 2 card double board bomb pot, $5 ante 9 handed. I can only buy in for 75% of big stack who is a whale (pretty tight but any time he hits a "big hand" he plays face up and overvalues it),

Flop ($45): QQ7, 887, hero in MP ($1,000) has QQ. Checks around.

Turn ($45): QQ7A, 8876, SB ($400) bets $20, BB whale (covers hero) calls, hero calls.

River ($105): QQ7AA, 88765, SB bets $50, BB whale raises $200, hero all in $980, SB calls for less, BB calls.

SB had T9 to take half of main ($623) with straight and BB whale tables A2, hero takes half of main and side pot ($1,822).

I thought there was a good chance that the whale was overvaluing a hand likely to get quartered at best and was right.

Also, there was a little drama. I announced all in and slid forward a $100 red stack, dealer put all in plate in front of me. It looks like BB whale thought that SB was raising him all in for a smaller amount, but he was calling me. Whale flips his hand over and the dealer asks him, "wait, do you call?" and he quickly announces call. However, he doesn't place a chip in the middle. I make the mistake of not clarifying that he called because he didn't put a chip in the middle, I announce quads.

When the dealer tells him to slide forward $980, whale looks confused and then sick. He then says he never said he was calling MY all in and is reluctant to slide the chips in. He gets mad at dealer and says dealer should have asked which all in he was calling. I tell him in an angry tone obviously he can't just call the smaller all in and not me. After a little more hesitation, he finally slams forward his stack.

I wasn't trying to angle, this is always how I announce all in. Whale is a 1/2 reg so he knows the rules, but granted, he is older and his senses aren't very sharp.

I've heard horror stories where a guy says all but doesn't flick in the chip, so I usually a him to if dealer doesn't, a getting worried this was going to happen. Not sure what would have happened of he refused to put in his chips. Just reminder, play it safe.
