geez fml I cannot read the hh for ****

first hand is fine too, both are standard, no matter how many times I reread the hh (even the part where he calls all in for over 100bb on the turn after a c/r on the flop) my brain couldn't get it

both hands are standard and I retract the majority of what I've said previously in this thread

new comment to replace the old negative ones: awesome start to a stake bro, keep it up

Lol, thank you, Thrasher. I agree with your sentiments after you reread the hands. Friend said you were good and that I should listen to you but we weren't quite on the same page to start for obvious reasons.

yeah I totally misread both hh both times through by just quickly taking a look at the stack sizes at the top and didn't notice anyone had more than 100bb besides you in the first one, completely missed that the KK guy had roughly the same and under those conditions as long as I'm not too scared of a fourbet I flat 88 there quite often

second hand I totally blew also not seeing the 50bb on top which with position makes it good too, my bad on originally being harsh and sounding like a dick

This hand I wanted to post but was having trouble with HEM when I made the thread. I know I'm going to get flamed. I swear this is the tightest fold I've ever made.

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $0.50(BB) Replayer
SB ($71.65)
Hero ($188)
CO ($48)
BTN ($114)

Dealt to Hero JJ

CO raises to $2, BTN raises to $5.50, fold, Hero calls $5, fold,

FLOP ($13.25) 7AJ

check, check,

TURN ($13.25) 7AJ8

Hero bets $8, BTN raises to $24, Hero calls $16,

RIVER ($61.25) 7AJ8T

check, BTN bets $30, Hero folds,

BTN wins $59.25

Thoughts?

reship turn imo (or at least raise I mean), he could possibly 3bet pre with 9Ts but I doubt it and if you got set over setted that's just a cooler

only reason I don't hate the fold is your semi deep and his flop check turn raise makes absolutely no sense and isn't usually a bluff as any smart player knows the line looks ******ed as a bluff

any reads on him? stats?

edit: fwiw I call river though it's not my favorite spot to have to check call with a flopped set

The villain was not a creative enough player, and most importantly was obviously scared money, to bluff on the river. I feel like he can bet this spot with any 9 (which though unlikely is a possibility if he's running an oddly played bluff). (again, no balls, isn't bluffing river in such a large pot given stack sizes). So he bets here with some sets (maybe not bottom) and a 9. I feel its unlikely he has 77 in this spot because he'll bet for value against AK, not check behind. TT is a possibility but I felt AA was more likely. Essentially, I felt I was beating a miniscule portion of his already infinitely small betting range in this spot. Honestly, I don't think calling or folding were wrong (raising definitely is), I felt like saving the money today and opted to fold. His stats were like 16/13 fyi.

lol i don't think that continuing to call 3bets with medium pocket pairs will be that profitable when you stop hitting a set every time...

Basic set mining philosophy... If it costs you more than 10% of your stack, you should fold. I bluff a lot, I win 60% of hands in which I see a flop. That's pretty high. I will call with any pair for 10% of my stack because A) people can call off with anything that hits and B) when they don't, its so transparent, especially when I'm in position.

You can only call for 10% of you stack if you're going to get paid off every time. This is perhaps one of the biggest misunderstandings in poker... The thing is, you're not going to get paid off for a full stack every time you hit a set..

And as these two hands illustrate, I feel situations similar to shown, in which players that are unlikely to 4-bet all in 3-bet into me, allowing me to call safely in between. In these situations I feel it is tremendously easy to manipulate weak players (read: all at $50) into putting there stack in when I flop a set.

I'm winning at a rate of 11.71 bb/100 over 29k hands on stars. I just looked over my top hands and multiple of them are 3-bet pots where I'm playing oop and flop a set.
