I gotta agree here, insane to see the guy win flip after flip after flip.
Its a good month if I win one.
How does he never lose 500-600 allins in a row? Like real players in the real world.
Why cant I run like kaboom?
This just makes me hate the world.

I don't care if it is his challenge or whatnot. The stipulations were put up there and he failed. Obviously if he is successful PokerStars will just say he ONLY needed 1 reload but that's a joke.

Thread should be over, it was a failure.
All of you challenge purists saying this are missing the entire point of this challenge.

i think the fact he went busto once is actually a good thing in the eyes of a fish. if he goes on to be successful after losing one initial deposit won't it encourage the fact that going busto happens to the best? the fish/whoever then can chalk it up to luck and continue depositing?

idk, maybe im ******ed

Exactly what I was about to say. A lot of you don't seem to realise that the people that Stars aims to bring in from this challenge will not know/care that it's from his second chance, they'll just think 'zomg $5 to $100k in one year?! obv easy then' and (hopefully) deposit.

This. I couldn't figure that out either.

u guys r nits it's 5$ to 100k not it doesnt specify which 5$ so as long as the stake he got was exactly 5$ and he was busto. it's still called turning 5$ into 100k

It said that if Boku went bust he had to grind back up through freerolls. The whole essence of the promotion was shot down once Boku was given another $5 stake. I was going to follow the coverage and hoped that he would make it but now it's not all that interesting.

If I was a new/casual player just thinking about starting to get more into poker and I read about an experienced grinder dropping 50 buyins due to bad luck at the nanostakes, I think there's a good chance I would probably have ended up deciding there's better things to invest my time in.

But you wouldn't read that. You would read that he turned two 5 dollar deposits into 100k

Here's last 24 hour stats

Boku87 [Click for details] 102 $0.03 $1 35% $3 - N/A PokerStars <1Day SNG Only x

If he makes it regardless of the first $5 it's still sick because I know I couldn't play tons of penny games and stay motivated.

It wasn't bad luck.
The nanos are tough these days and he probably failed to adjust.
Someone newer to poker have nothing to adjust 'from' so are much better candidates to run good to start with obv. Harsh lesson for the young pro but better he learn it now for $5 than later for more money imo.
So he's still winning overall. You got to look at the big picture in these things.

Can the whiners start a Boku87 blah whatever moany thread and post in that instead? Or better wait until he hits $100k and mount a campaign demanding Stars refund everyone he's ever played?

Last edited by sputum; 07-18-2009 at 12:44 PM. Reason: Cool there IS a moany Boku thread. I go moan in it

yeah i agree but i think people are moreso annoyed / frustrated that they expected boku to have to grind up from $5 without busting and since really the toughest part of the challenge was grinding the $5 up without busting (probably just playing .10c 360mans and .01c 999 mans). now that the hardest part of the challenge isn't hard at all since he can reload, i guess it's kind of a let down.

still have a lot of respect for boku, but i gotta agree it's pretty stupid he can reload

So the toughest part of the challenge is going from $5 - $?

Just so I know

at this moment I think the challenge is pretty done for boku... there is a 0,000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000001% chance he is going broke again and from now on the challenge is easy for him...

a REAL challenge would be if stars picked up some random smart student that never played poker in his life, gave him a 2 months coaching membership in some online poker school (during the school holidays), offer him 10$ to start playing and see how he does.... that would be much more: from a fish to a pro
