Had lost my license for 6 months, so spent that time reading poker strategy/watching vids/playing online. Spent a ton of time on poker since I couldn't do much else.

The time had come where the local poker room was putting on a tourney that had the local radio DJs as bounties, it was 105 man, which was fairly large for the tournies that normally run there. I decided this'd be a great time to get back to the card room.

Some of my friends were getting together for sushi, and I don't normally miss those, but I really wanted to get back to the poker room.

I was amazed at how soft the game was, peoples bet sizing was all screwy, they were calling down junk and just overall busting pretty quickly and playing badly.

It was literally as simple as play tight->value bet. The only bluffs I ran was the occasional continuation bet in position. That's it. They paid off top pair with worse so often I was quickly chip lead.

I took one dirty beat where a guy called all-in on the flop with pocket tens when I had paired my king, by the river he had a flush. It was no big deal though, because it was so easy to claw back up.

Finished 6th for $160, which I know in the grand scale of things isn't much, but compared to the penny ante games I play online, this was big. The competition was literally easier than a 2.25 90 or 180, it was spectacular.

So I missed the sushi, but it was worth it, and my first time back in the cardroom was a huge difference to the last time I had been in there where I felt sooo outmatched. I know tl;dr but I thought I'd post my trip report because it was ultra-exciting to me and somewhat of a milestone.

7. Has gambling ever caused you to lose sushi time with friends?

final table was a crapshoot, blinds were large as starting stacks, most everyone had 10-12BB stacks except one guy with like 40BB, at that stage its just ship and pray. Last hand I picked up QJ on the Button, it was folded around, shoved 11BB, called by the big blind who flips over AJ... flop came QAx, 2 blanks on turn and river and I was outta there. Tourney was very soft, getting to the money wasn't hard, but there's so little maneuverability at that stage the last few places were determined mostly by chance. Last hand was super standard.

lool. live donkament players dont adjust ranges well to stack sizes, especially when deep, creating plenty of maneuverability playing short stacked, if you know how to pick the right spots.

congrats on 6th though.

26, been playing for about a year and 3 months. I'm just light-hearted... sorry, I know my excitement looks borderline wonky in text.

Thanks... out of curiosity, I don't see how it could've panned out differently, perhaps you see something I don't. Say I open raised from the button instead and get called by the BB, same flop. He bets, I'm getting 3:1 with middle pair and 1/3 of my stack already in the pot, it all would've gone in anyway on the flop and still would've made an exit on that hand. Same thing if he checks, it would've been an automatic bet, followed by all the chips going in. That hand, as the cards fell, was destined to take me out there.

No i was talking about the general crapshoot ft comment, your final hand, as played, was totally standard.
