Assuming you're +EV on lower stakes then it definitely is bad to take shots like that. You risk too much future value. The most aggressive and profitable bankroll strategy is just simply Kelly betting and this goes way beyond that. From the perspective of your bankroll growth, this sort of shot might even be -EV even if your expectation in the game itself is positive.

That said, full Kelly betting is much more aggressive that most people are used to. In NL, it can easily be something like 10 buy-ins. (Given that you move down when it's 10 buy-ins for the lower level etc.)

Thanks for all the responses, I'll try to respond to some things but this post would be incredibly long if I responded to everything.

To Cdog, yeah, finding the right number of tables can be important but I think playing too few is better than too many. Different people have skills more oriented to different ways of playing, and I think making sure I don't lose focus/enjoyment from playing too many tables is best for me, there are a ton of times I've regretted trying to play too much at once and not playing well.

On the other hand, I hope you know that I have known many many players who have been in situations somewhat similar to you (yes some of them are guys you think are HSNL ballers). 100-400K BR to practically nothing and they don't even know what hit them. Yes, a good amount of these players recover and make a bunch of money back; but, the reality is a bunch of them do the same thing over and over again.

For both your financial and mental health you need to set some very strict BR requirements for each level, and then be mentally strong enough to execute those plans. From what I have read from you in this thread, it sounds like you don't plan on being stringent enough. Either way, good luck to you bro.
This is definitely a good post, a bit harsh, but some good things to think about. If I had taken a safer system in the past I think I could be in a much better spot today, and still need to make sure to take care in the future. Still, while it can be safe and disciplined way to go about things, I don't completely agree with it due to the variety in the games that are available, particularly at higher stakes.

JarnoV had a pretty good comment as well, but I'll just say that the variety of games in poker can lead to some very risky things if you are truly attempting to maximize your rate of growth, but of course can also be dangerous if you aren't careful and make for some very fast variance.

wtf, pretty clear why you lost so much
Awesome, but unfortunately not quite as impressive as it looks because it's biased by a few things.

Thanks, good playing with you and talking to you at the tables. Could have had some more good 25/50 heads up games if I wasn't as insistent on degen'ing up the 1/2, but look forward to playing you another day.
