I disagree. I think the problem with most players who aren't beating stuff like 2nl (lol) is that they have the knowledge but don't make enough of an effort to play solid and not get tricky. If OP deposits and grinds 25nl or something and just plays solid/tight it should be profitable. Save opening up till 100nl.
Of course I know nothing about OP's game but I'd assume that someone who's played 250k hands and is dedicated to getting better would already know a fair bit and should be able to punish low stakes with the right mindset
edit: i also think its worth $500 or whatever to deposit to find out if you can be beating poker for some money instead of spending another 200k hands finding out you can't win. Alot more money can be earnt spending that time working a job
