Last Friday night, I'm playing in a league tournament freeroll at a bar. Yeah, OK, I play bar poker. A lot of my friends play, and it's a chance for me to socialize with them without taking their money.
I showed up late, as I was only planning on meeting a friend, but the host asked if I wanted to play, so I figured I'd donk it up with the fish. I sit down one hand before the first break, and muck my first hand.
Coming back from break, the blinds are 200/400 and I'm UTG+2 with a 5.25BB stack. Whee!
UTG limps, UTG+1 is not at the table, I push for 2100 with 8
7
.
UTG+3 is cutting out chips thinking of calling when the button says, "Hey, (UTG+1) didn't get a hand, it's a misdeal!". I say, "Wait a minute, two players have already acted, there CAN'T be a misdeal." Much grumbling ensues, but the hand proceeds. UTG+3 calls, all else fold, UTG+3 tables pocket deuces, my hand wins, we move on.
Maybe 15 minutes later, the host comes up to the table and says "By the way, the next time someone isn't dealt in, it's a MISDEAL!" Now, she had never come to the table to find out the circumstances of the hand, so apparently someone ran off and cried to her. So I felt like I had to say something - and told her that the typical ruling is to protect the action when two players have already acted. She's inexperienced (she's been playing (bar) poker for a few months, and this is the first league event she has run), and probably wasn't aware of the circumstances. Here's where it gets ugly. She immediately shouts at me "You're DONE, pick up your stack, and GET OUT!". Emotionally stable, that one is.
Wow. Several of the players at the table say something to the effect of "WTF, he's DQed for disagreeing with you?" She threatens to call the foks that (mis)manage the league and I say "Be my guest." She stomps off, I stay at the table and continue to play.
So a few minutes later, she's apparently called, and comes back to the table, and says that I can stay but that I'm not welcome to come back the next night. I say, OK, I'm not planning on coming back tomorrow anyways, so it's cool. All seemed cool.
Another few minutes later, she comes up to the table, and says that I'm banned, and that I had to leave. WTF?
Apparently, she exchanged words with another player who happens to be a friend of mine over this issue, and it got ugly, and she decided to ban both of us.
Brag: Banned from bar poker.
Beat: I play bar poker.
Variance: Have to find a new place to drink Friday nights. ;-)
