Alright so i'm on the button with 2.5mil chips blinds are 50k - 100k, I have a loose cannon behind me with a little under 2mil and he has been raising and going all in with KQ's and A10's the last couple tables begging for me to sign his death certificate. Everyone folds to him which he ends up raising to 400k, I smooth call with AK hearts, BB calls also with a stack of about 3mil. Now my first question here is, should I have raised pre-flop? I had been playing a very tight game most the night sticking to my premiums and good positions however in that position hadn't the blinds been so high I would have been more inclined to raise?

As I said earlier I had this guys number I honestly put him on aq or less preflop is why I smooth called to let him feel as though he had the power. Flop comes 7d As 9s. BB checks and then loose cannon bets 1mil, feeling as though my read was spot on I push him all in....then the unexpected part comes to fruition with the BB calling instantly, loose cannon shows AQ as expected and then BB shows 77 he hit the set and the rest is history. My read was on it, that is why my original question is should I have raised pre-flop which in turn may have kept BB with his 77 out of the hand. I dont see anywhere here where I should fold pre to a guy I had been waiting patiently for.
