in a poker tournament everyone puts up some money (referred to as a buyin), the point of this tournament is to use your poker skills and rungoods to take everybody elses chips and become the "champion". To do this you must build a big stack and in turn take out the stacks that are lower than you are. Prizepools usually payout around 10% of the field to the players that have been able to maintain a healthy stack until the point where the final unmoneyd player busts (this is sometimes referred to as the bubble). After you have either maintained a healthy stack or gotten short on chips and busted you are paid out as dictated by the payout structure until finally one person wins the grand prize and the trophy!
