1KG Steak prop bet 1KG Steak prop bet

05-27-2008 , 02:48 AM
A friend at work has floated the idea that he can eat 1kg fillet steak + 1 bottle of red wine in 10 minutes. He gets to choose the wine from the menu and steak will be medium rare.

Hes an average built South African guy

Anyone tried this ?

Any views on success ?

If 1 kg equals 3 to 4 pounds like I think it does then now way no how. But who knows? If you say ten minutes it just seems impossible.

Is that the weight your talking about?
05-27-2008 , 03:02 AM
It's 2.2 lbs. Def doable I wouldn't take the bet.
05-27-2008 , 03:06 AM
I could do that easily. I HAVE done that easily.

I'm about 6'3 210 and I don't even think that would phase me

i don't usually say things like this, but jesus christ, how do americans get by in the world without having a clue about the metric system

1kg = 2.2lbs = 35 oz or so
05-27-2008 , 03:11 AM
It will be 2x500g (2x 1.1lbs) rump steak + 1 bottle of red wine.

maybe because we don't use the metric system as much? whether the system we currently use makes sense or not is another story. if you rattled those numbers off the top of your head, hat's off to you, but I would guess you had to look them up. and thanks for making a blanket statement about a country based on one person's ignorant statement; sigh

1 kg = 2.2 lbs is usually standard knowledge in high school.

Well wine does add a lot of calories but since it's liquid it's a lot easier to take them.

I guess we don't really need the metric system and if we did we would all know it. I looked it up online and I got the weight by comparison of a liquid so not surprised I was wrong. Now I remember from old drug stories that a kilo does equal 2.2 lbs LOL. That sounds a lot more reasonable in ten minutes.

Metric system > Imperial system

100 centimetres = 1metre. 1000 metres = 1kilometre. Etc etc.

298934839849 foot = 1 mile? Makes no sense???

hahahaha. I Like it.

If he leaves most of it to the end and has to finish off half a bottle in a few mins it oculd add to the barf factor.

whats the best strategy ?

lolool. why do people take so much pride in their ****ing countries over the stupidest ****, who ****ing cares how yo measure the distance, weight of something. freakin ******ed.

my flags more well designed! no my flags more well designed!

fillet mignon is too lean and yummy to be a good prop bet food bet. make him eat a kilo of cream cheese

i know that 1 kg is about 2.2 lbs (inasmuch as a scalar can equal a vector) and 1 lb = 16 oz off the top of my head. i also know how to multiply two digit numbers together in my head.

if it's a blanket statement, it's at least an accurate one - most americans are woefully ignorant of the metric system. it's pretty much undeniable that the metric system is superior to the imperial system (given that it, you know, works in base 10 and not on some obscure measurement originally based on the size of a long dead king) and the only reason i can see for its continued existence is obstinacy on the part of american legislators and/or a complete lack of faith in the ability of the average american to adapt.

i've lived in america for a couple of years and i quite liked (like) it. that being said, i find their decision not to use the metric system completely inexplicable. moreover it's pretty absurd to say that i take pride in my country because we use the metric system - every other country in the world has adopted it, even the british, who invented the damn system and hate the french even more than the americans do (although they still say stupid **** like 4 stone)

well, every reasonably educated person knows the metric system since they presumably have taken a university course in some sort of physical science, american or not. if you don't want to be one of these high-falutin' folk then you are right, you don't 'really need' it.

yup, when i was a little kid, i thought kg/meter was goofy. then i took high school science classes, and realized that our system is ******ed. i really don't understand why we still use lb,foot, etc... also, why the **** is lb. the shorthand for pound?
05-27-2008 , 04:07 AM
btw, why wouldn't a bottle of wine make it harder? it would still fill up the stomach. i think 35 oz of steak isn't too tough with a normal size beverage, but add a bottle of wine, and i might not be able to do it.

'The word pound comes from the Latin word pendere, meaning "to weigh". The Latin word libra means "scales, balances" and it also describes a Roman unit of mass similar to a pound. This is the origin of the abbreviation "lb" for the pound.' (thanks wikipedia!)

LOL ignore the facts...

it is all standardized: Kilo means 1000

1kg = 1000g

1km = 1000m

Wow....thats weird.... lol americans

if you make it 5 mins ~ then you have a bet.
IMO that 10 mins is like free money

thats actually not a horrible bet..
the steak part is easy

i had a 36oz steak the other day and im like 150lb 5'9 asian guy.
this wasnt a dare just my dinner.

but the bottle of wine and steak in 10 minutes makes it harder. the steak itself would take <5 minutes

if anything..downing a bottle of wine is probably the harder part.
