This week I had this embarrassing conversation with the VP of Sales and Marketing at a partner of ours. We had told him his web site wasn't working, and he called us back with one of his support reps.

Support Rep: "What browser were you using?"

Me: "Explorer".

Support Rep: "What version of Explorer?"

Me: "Version 8, the latest"

Support Rep: "Oh, that's your problem. Explorer 8 is incompatible with almost everything, we only work with Explorer 7. Everyone knows 8 is incompatible, even Microsoft".

Me: "But we also tested with Firefox and Safari, on Mac and on Windows and your site didn't work"

Support Rep: "Yea, we don't work with non-standard browsers, they're incompatible with almost everything too."

I bit my tongue and thanked the VP for his time.

Thank god this is actually no longer true. 60% of our traffic in the last month used Firefox, 20% used IE. 20% used some combo of the remaining browsers.

Haha yeah this is pretty standard, basically IE 8 is a complete cluster****, but older versions of IE were all pretty much **** to begin with, so anyone who develops for IE has to pick their poison. We support IE as minimally as we can, if we were in a more corporate industry maybe we'd need to re-think that, but I'm not going to apologize for bringing really cool technology to our site at the expense of people having a tough time with an outdated, relic of a browser

One thing about statistics for business use is that they can be a closed loop; perhaps so few of your users use IE because it works so poorly on that system, even though it has 2/3 of the market.

Then poor at table selection I guess. The game I was in was nit tight except when I was in a hand. For instance, I raise UTG and am 3 bet by sour lady who PJ has described in the past. Imbecile poster calls. Life nit(sighed multiple times when other players took too long to bet, bet all in incorrect amounts, etc) thinks a while and cold calls the three bet and we take the flop four ways. Life nit who I think believes he is an excellent player shows up with a winning A3 after he is called by imbecile. He then takes multiple stabs at guessing my hand, all of which are incorrect. I asked for a table change prior to that to the game nearest the cage and got moved to a great table full of gambool and opponents who say all the awesome things that Commerce is famous for .

What about the un-sexy ones? Depending on how much you're gonna drink your costume's effect on them could be almost as important.
