Fold this overpair? Fold this overpair?

04-12-2008 , 08:55 AM
Commerce 40/80

Pre-Flop:
EP (average player) raises, MP1 (loose passive) cold calls, MP2 calls, I 3-bet with TT, BB (loose passive) calls, everyone calls.

Flop: 753
Checks to me, I bet, BB calls, EP calls, MP1 calls, MP2 folds

Turn: [753] 3
Checks to me, I bet, BB calls, EP folds, MP1 raises

So I feel like folding, but man that pot is big.

If the player is truly passive and will never check-raise a big draw (i.e. A-6 Diam.) or non-monster made hand(7-6), then the numbers say fold. I don't know if I can ever be that sure, though, so I probably make crying calls all the way down (unless the 10hits). I'm calling and likely losing.

Assuming this guy is truely passive then this is an easy fold when he check- raises in a protected pot.

Hmm one response for fold, and one for call. Well, here are the results:

Spoiler:
I figure I'm likely beat, but the pot is huge so I call down. I feel there's some possibity he has A7 (maybe with a flush draw), pocket 88 or 99, or is overplaying 75 for flopped top two pair, although his mostly likely hand seems like a flopped set or straight. Anyway, MP1 shows 55 for a flopped set and takes the pot.

Before I look at the spoiler, I'd fold. It's easy for him to call that flop with 3,4.

ack- i was going to say i look him up. but no, not really if MP1 is truly passive. passive players don't ever c/r anything worse than a 3 here when you 3bet preflop. if you just 2 bet preflop and it was like 3 or 4 to a flop id look him up for sure - but i think he's showing too much strength here.

also- he can't have 2 pair because it just got counterfeited, so you are always drawing to 2 outs (or 4 outs if he has a straight)

Bad players can have 75 for top two pair here, not realizing that an overpair beats them. I know it's not likely, but it is possible.
