That We are Siamese song is always good for a laugh, then just fill it with nine other Mickey Mouse Club workout songs and you have ten. There must be over 100 good Disney songs.

Right, for later on when the kids go to bed and Daddy needs some alone time. Julie Andrews is still around, and her foul mouth never fails to turn me on.

typically when u hear a disney song, you recall happy moments during your childhood which in turn makes you feel happy. i assume its the same for parents of those children too when they hear disney songs. they recall happy moments when their offspring were young. as for children that grew up with disney movies, im sure if they had children they would show them disney movies because they recall some happy moments of their childhood watching disney movies.

I suppose that's true of people who were exposed to Disney. When I was a kid, my parents didn't spoon-feed me the loathsome morals of that hideous tripe, so luckily I don't associate such willfully ignorant anthems of complacency like "Hakuna Matata" with good times.

I was a product of the cheerfully absurd and often contentious Looney Tunes, of Hardy Boys mysteries, of Spider-Man comics, and, musically, of '50s and '60s oldies pop tunes. (One of my first musical memories was my parents' 45 of Windy).

You are trying too hard PJ.

I also watched Loony Tunes and read Hardy Boys. Never read comics, but did hear some music from that time period as well because of my parents obviously.

I also had some of these as a child:

I had the canteen, the grenade, and the compass.

I remember asking my grandma for the Army Gear Flashlight (shown above) for Christmas one year.

I ended up getting this, which turned out to be a much cooler gift after the initial disappointment wore off

I wasn't huge on Disney growing up, but I do appreciate a lot of it now as an adult w/ 2 kids.

Looney Tunes was awesome and I love the old cartoon intros ie FLintstones, Jetsons, Tom and Jerry, Pink Panther, etc.

LOL @ Windy. I def remember that song. My mom was more into Eagles, Steppenwolf, The Who, etc... which is obv why I still love classic rock.

when i was little in the car with my dad, we would always listen to The Beach Boys and Herman's Hermits. Sloop John B was my favorite song. i was really into pirates at the time. for my birthday in 2nd grade, we had a pirate themed birthday party. everyone got eyepatches and plastic swords. we had a soda chugging contests and a spitting contest. we would walk the plank (diving board) into the swimming pool. and they put an eyepatch onto the pinata too.

I still think most of it is vile, and if I ever decide to breed, no way I'm giving those lessons to my offspring -- but I adore Pixar. I think there's a lot of great stuff for kids and adults in films like Monsters Inc, Toy Story 2, and Wall-E.
08-27-2010 , 02:15 PM
So those are acceptable, but Lion King and Aladdin are vile?

ok..........

I dunno, much as I like Pixar's output like The Incredibles, I find them to be strongly heteronormative. IMR, all these people going around in skin-tight outfits, and none of them are queer? The mind boggles.

And then there's Toy Story. Here my friend Nick (not the Scrabble player, another Nick) reviews Toy Story 3.
08-27-2010 , 03:20 PM
How do you know they're not queer? Is there hetero sex implied in the incredibles outside of the married couple main characters?

One of the things that bother me about gay people (there's a nice way to start a sentence) is how they their sexuality is imparted on every single part of their life. Yes, gay is different. I'm fine with that. Why are you turning grocery shopping into a endless stream of buttsex jokes? I'm hetero and love sex. But if I brought in my chase for tail into every mundane task of my life I'm just a freak and very weird dude. I'm not annoyed that you're gay. I'm annoyed that your sexuality has no relevance to our trip to the burger king drive thru.

Yeah yeah, generalities etc.

lol actually we had an indoor sauna. i cant remember anyone ever using it though. it was just used for storage holding christmas/halloween decorations and such. there was also a shuffleboard court and a burned down horse stable.

the house/property was really really old and very oddly built. like imagine a twostory house, then years later they decided to build a onestory house next to it raised up on the ground with a stairway to the 2nd story of the 1st house and a stairway to the 1st story of the 1st house. so there ended up being two kitchens too.

i remember my parents rented the 1st floor of the original house to a family. i dont think i really understood what was going on at the time. i just remember getting upset i wasnt allowed downstairs anymore.

my parents ended up converting the basement of the 1st house to a bedroom and the garage to another room. eventually the garage room became an office for his insurance agency. my guess is my parents rented it out to that family until it paid off the costs of the basement/garage conversion.

Most gay people don't do this at all. They are in the closet or not outspoken about their sexuality because they are rightly scared about homophobia and scrutiny. Your perspective or level is a classic case of ignorance in stereotyping everyone in a population based on the most extreme examples within it.

I find it funny when people are sexual about random things. I'm sure everyone can attest that I make awesome TWSS.
08-27-2010 , 05:51 PM
lol. i grew up with way more gay people in my life than typical. yes, i'm stereotyping. no, i'm not ignorant.

Could you expand upon this in regard to Disney movies?

IMO, disney has come a long ways in their "Happily everafter, fairytales" for the most part... well, at least how they present them anyway!

Maybe it broke shortly after I left and you all restarted it 4 handed at 2:30ish? Did it go on 39 or 40?

Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas) is simply a great composer, and can honestly be given a lot of the credit for the Disney animated film resurgence in the 90s. I can come up with 3 (or more) good Disney songs from any one of the first three of those films; haven't seen Pocahontas but would be very surprised if that didn't tally as well as the others. He also wrote Little Shop of Horrors, not Disney but another great score.

The Academy disagrees very strongly with you - Menken has the most Oscars of any living person (8), all for Disney songs/scores - and while that doesn't necessarily count for much, I do as well (which, of course, does count!).
