How Stupid can FTP be? How Stupid can FTP be?

04-08-2010 , 03:27 PM
Pretty damn stupid.

My brother signed up through a rakeback affiliate at the beginning of Feb. The affiliate confirmed that he was good to go for rakeback. Yesterday my brother finally made his 1st deposit and played for a while. He emailed the affiliate again to be sure that he would be receiving rakeback. Today the affiliate emailed him back stating that he is no longer eligible for rakeback because you must play a raked hand within 60 days of opening the account, which is FTP's rule. The affiliate says there is nothing FTP will do to accomodate my brother.

So instead of gaining a customer, they send him over to Stars or UB or wherever. Obviously he is not going to play at FTP without rakeback. He emailed FTP asking for assistance but I told him not to hold his breath. I mean are they really that dumb? Do they not like money? How could that possibly be a good business decision?

That's their rules, why didnt you ask your affiliate about it when you created the account, if you didnt have an intention to deposit the money immidiately? They would have told you that you have to deposit in 60 days.

This is not an uncommon practice among poker rooms and affiliates afaik.

Edit: if they unlinked him from his original affiliate, he could probably get rb from rakebackpros now(eventually) if you ask ftp about it

New to poker OP? Not even close to the best example of how stupid FTP is.

Just don't see any upside to this rule for FTP's sake. What's the difference if you starting playing the next day or a year from then?

I am a long time FTP customer and in general I'm very pleased with their service. But I just don't understand this rule at all. FTP is going to lose business for what reason?

All rakeback providers i've seen have a note usually in bold or red that you need to have $10 in your FT account within 60 days or you lose it.

First 2 sites I looked at now. I think it used to be $25 not $10 though.

Ugh... is this the same for RBP? I've got this mail from 03/03/2010 and there was no link/hint to further rules:

Do I have to deposit within the next 4 weeks? It was an old account and it got finally tagged (by request of 11/2009).

If its a real money account you should be fine, and since you said it's an old account I guess you played on it before? If not make a small deposit/player transaction and play a couple of hands.

It's not about deposit. Balance just have to be over $10.

Full Tilt Sucks!!

And when the day comes that americans can play at any pokerroom again they will lose half their player base. Meanwhile Pokerstars will still be going strong.

Other similar posts have reported that FTP has transferred the account to RakeBackPros very quickly...E-mail FTP and explain the situation and ask to be moved to RBPs...

IMO the one that screwed up here is the affiliate...This was a well publicized rule change by FTP...

This.

They're only removed from the rakeback sites affiliate tag, once the player e-mails full tilt support they're usually with rakebackpros in a couple days.

It's not full tilt's fault, is it?

If the rakeback affiliate had just told you in bold that you had 60 days, you would have been informed to make a decision.

I wasn't even aware of this rule, but now that I check, my page has the 60 day rule. Have never had any issues.

Title should be: How Stupid can my brother be?
04-10-2010 , 01:56 PM
You guys are missing the point. Why in the world would FTP have this rule in place? What's the difference if they deposit within 60 days or not? I talked to my bro this morning and he signed up and started playing at Cake instead. They lost a customer over this pointless rule. Like I said, they must not like money.
04-10-2010 , 02:31 PM
Actually they LOVE money, hence this rule.

Correct. The rule isn't just for rakeback players any player that doesn't play within 60 days is removed from their affiliate whether they are rakeback or not. One would think this lowers their affiliate marketing costs, especially if they then market Rakebackpros to those unaffiliated players.
04-10-2010 , 08:11 PM
They sure are making a ton of money from my brother who is now playing at cake. Well played FTP
04-13-2010 , 03:31 PM
Is this true? I signed up but have never deposited though I have had people transfer me $$ to play there (I'm even signed up for an MTT this weekend) so I'm wondering, if I deposit then I do NOT get rakeback?
04-13-2010 , 03:56 PM
[ ] has anything to do with Full Tilt

But if you go through rakebackpros is this still in effect? I went though them just never deposited though I have played but through transfers which I know do NOT count towards rakeback. I was about to finally deposit but obviously if I'm not getting RB I'm not playing there.

Are you talking about the 60-day rule? It has everything to do with FT.
04-13-2010 , 04:48 PM
More appropriate title would be how greedy can they be. I don't think it's stupid though. Maybe they do actually lose your brother and maybe he would have actually paid significant rake (big if's IMO) but they don't care about him, rightfully so. It's a numbers game for them. If they have stuck with this, you can be sure denying him RB was a +EV bet by them, all things considered (and that's a lot of things, very few of them having anything to do with your brother)
04-13-2010 , 06:04 PM
After 60 days you lose your affiliate tag --> saves money for FTP if you ever do deposit.

It's frustrating for affiliates / players that are unaware of it, but not unreasonable.

For every thread complaining about this, there's 10 people who just go on and play without rakeback.
