Windows and ubuntu keep crashing Windows and ubuntu keep crashing

I have a HP compaq 8510p with a Windows 7-Ubuntu dual boot.

Specs:
-Intel Core 2 Duo
-4GB memory
-ATI mobility Radeon

When i was on windows today i suddenly got a blue screen and the computer rebooted. After the reboot i got the blue screen again after only a minute or so.

Then i went to ubuntu and again after about a minute everything freezes and the pc reboots. And as in windows it keeps on doing this.

Then i ran windows in safe mode with network options and i don't get a blue screen.

I don't know if it's related but i ran a memory test in both ubuntu and windows and both times the computer just shut down during the test.

I don't remember installing any new hardware or software recently. Is this a virus or a hardware problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated cause safe mode sucks.

try removing some of the memory chips and running the memory tests again. i dont know the physical layout of the parts in your laptop but if the memory is difficult to get to (like you have to open the case, then remove the keyboard, etc) then don't do that unless you're comfortable with it.

also, not sure if it's the most widely used right now, but use this tool to find out the info from the blue screens and post it (credit to wellju i think for this link)

I definitely don't feel comfortable removing the memory chips before i've explored all other possibilities. I don't have much time now but i will try the nirsoft thing later.

Edit:
Ok i still had time to install and run blueScreenView. It found 6 crashes, I'll try to upload screen shots later. But there is a lot of info on blueScreenView that doesn't fit in one screen shot. what info would you guys be most interested in?

Apparently print screen doesn't work in safe mode.
But bluescreenview says the cause is halmacpi.dll 6 out of the 8 crashes and ntoskrnl.exe 2 of the 8 times.

The file description for halmacpi is Hardware Abstraction layer DLL.
And for ntoskrnl it is NT Kernel & System.

Bluescreenview has a lot more info. like caused by address, crash address, stack adress, ...
If any of that might be helpful let me know.

I have been on windows without a BSOD for about 30 mins now and i have been
able to get a printscreen from bluescreenview.

As you can see the error code is 0X00000124 this is what bug check code has to say about this code

Quote:
The WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000124. This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).
I've also been able to do a memory test (Memtest86+) (only one pass) without my computer shutting down. No errors had been found

OK, I will try these steps and update when they're done.
