I remember purchasing dual 1600x1200 Dell 20" monitors back in 2005 for like $600 / each...only to see them drop in price by 50% over the next few years.

And today, you can get dual 1900x1200 24"-ers for around $200 / each.

But the 'holy grail' continues to remain prohibitively expensive...like, pretty much > $1,000 across the board.

What's the lowest anyone's seen these go for? Was hoping for some holiday savings but doesn't look like the price is budging this yr...

Not sure they'll drop as fast as other consumer monitors. High resolution 30" monitors aren't a normal consumer-level monitor choice (more of a professional/enthusiast item), so unless there is lots of demand for them and they become more of the norm, I don't see $200 30" monitors any time soon.

But of course the price WILL come down. It is technology after all. I personally just don't think they're gonna come down as fast as you'd think.

I got my 3007s for ~$700 each at the dell outlet a couple years ago. I'm not sure if they ever appear there anymore.

The Dell Ultra Sharp U2711 was available the other day for $742. 27" monitor at 2560 x 1440 resolution. A little smaller than a 30", but i thought that was a good deal.

Geez, all that rez packed into 27"??

I can't even imagine how tiny everything must be. I've got a 28" at 1900x1200.

Its really strange.

I just had one of my HP 3605's die and they are currently about $400 more than I paid for them 3 years ago!

To be honest I dont need the resolution any more so I am adding one of these for a fraction of the price if I cant get my 3605 fixed cheaply.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...558&CatId=3774

full 1920 x 1200

You can buy two of these for way less than half what you pay for one 30 inch monitor.

Unless you need the full 2560 x 1600 it just doesn't seem worth it.

The big plus of the HP 3605 is the excellent stand which has really good height adjustment.

A few comments:

- Just a warning about that tigerdirect 28" you linked to > it has HDMI and VGA, but no DVI port, which is a little unusual, and may be a nuisance depending on your setup.

- I have a 28" 1900x1200 just like that. No complaints; I just wanted the higher resolution;

- re: awesome stands, I've now bought 4 of these NeoFlex monitor stands: they're awesome and adjustable in every conceivable way. $40 each.

- I also recently bought this vertical LCD mount...Very sturdy construction, but a little pricey at $140.

- Just yesterday, though, I stumbled across this bad boy:

I couldn't believe the price ($70), since most quad-mounts go for $300+...but that thing got across the board great reviews (for the price) on amazon...

That stand looks like what the M Resort has in all their seats (with ~13" screens though). The last one, that is.

teddyFBI sorry for asking my question here in your thread, but I noticed you are already talking about my subject. I can remove my post if you want.

Anyone here have experience with the Dell UltraSharp U2711 (2560 × 1440) and the Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP SuperView (2560 × 1600)? I would buy two and use them for onlinepoker.

Most reviews I find hold the Dell UltraSharp U2711 as one of the best monitors out there. But I don't really find the same good reviews for the Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP SuperView. My problem with this is that these reviews obviously weren't targeted towards onlinepoker, does that even matter?

I heard several players use the Apple LED Cinema Display, it's 27" and comes with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. But earlier in this thread teddyFBI said,

If the tables are so small, why do people buy it?

I want two screens, optimal for poker and watching movies. I hear people buy Dell so I figured the 27" and 30" would the best ones, is that true? I would play/wait at around 8 tables, have HEM/propokertools/music/movies up on the other screen and I hate if something overlap

Any advice?

If you need DVI then newegg has the Hanspree on sale for 260 and free shipping at the moment.

From what I have read its basically the same model as the tigerdirect one.

I think both come with a HDMI to DVI cable anyway so it shouldnt be a problem either way?

I like having the higher resolution but unless you tile tables or need it for graphics work then its probably a bit of a waste given the huge price difference between the 30s and the 28s.

Most mass table grinders either stack or cascade these days.

Yeah, use the search function. The U2711 has been reviewed extensively in this forum already.

The thing with 30" 2560x1600 monitors is they TILE 12 poker tables really well without overlap and at a size that's not quite minimum.

I even tiled 24 tables with only a little bit of overlap a few years ago when I was insane enough to grind SNE.

If you don't need that many pixels on one screen, a 30" monitor is probably not for you.

four smaller monitors definitely much cheaper than two 30s. I also came across the same quad mount from tyke supply.

This might be the worst monitor choice ever for playing poker if you mass table.

If you are going to pay 800 for a monitor then its probably worth it to get the full resolution with a 30 inch model for around $1000

Yes you could fit the desired tables on this model but I am sure they would look really small and almost unreadable.

For around 500 you can buy two 1920 x 1200 monitors (24-28 inch) and put them side by side.
You would fit far more tables than a 30 inch, plus they would be much bigger and readable.

Anyone who mass tables, I cant see the point in tiling.

Can you really follow the action on 20+tables?

Plus the extra time it takes to move the mouse around and refocus your eyes is crazy.

Many years ago I used to tile and ended up with a really sore neck and arm.

Now you can use the auto time bank feature its so much easier to stack/cascade.
With hotkeys, you dont have to either move the mouse much or move your head to look around the screen.

Can anyone who's used one confirm or deny this? I though it was a highly-regarded poker monitor.

To make it perfectly clear, I havnt personally looked at this monitor but.....

I have two 30 inch monitors (HP 3065) using full 2560 x 1600

(I also have a 24 inch 1920 x 1200 monitor)

If this is a 27 inch monitor at roughly the same resolution then obviously thats quite a significant drop in actual physical area compared to a 30 inch.

Physically the dimensions of the screen for a 30 inch monitor are roughly 25.5 inches by 16 inches

(I estimate your the 27 inch model is roughly 22 x 14, 25% less physical area)

So the 30 inch is roughly 100 pixels per inch

Obviously the 27 inch monitor is going to have far more pixels/inch.

The same object at the same resolution is going to look much smaller on the 27 inch monitor. Thats a stone cold fact.

You can buy 2 x 24 inch 1920 x 1200 monitors at less than 500 the pair and get the same 100 pixels/inch (3840 x 1200 total)

(even better if you get the 28 inch 1920 x 1200 models which are obviously less than 100 pixels/inch, making the same object bigger)

My point is if you are willing to spend 800+ on a monitor and need the full resolution then spend a little more and get the 30 inch model.

found something interesting on Ebay...............

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-30-LG-S-IPS-...item19c0e909b2

A company out of Hong Kong is doing a generic 30 inch monitor for $699
(the problem is the large shipping)

At first glance it doesnt look that great but actually its the same panel all the 30 inch monitors use (S-IPS) including the apple.

We might see these generic panels hit the US market pretty soon at sub 800 I am guessing.

I would agree (pay the extra $200). However, I paid less than $600 for my U2711 which was a no brainer IMO.

http://www1.ap.dell.com/hk/en/home/m...=dhs&cs=hkdhs1

1USD = 7.8HKD so approx $673 and then add an additional discount because my work deals with Dell.

Design-wise those look so plain (and therefore awesome).

How do you know it's a company out of HK? (I want to pick one up the next time I'm there). I don't see anything in the eBay ad that indicates that.

If you click on shipping it says the item is located in Hong Kong and it costs 150 to ship to the US.......

The guy selling is in the US but I am guessing he is just a third party seller so you might be able to source them cheaper directly from Hong Kong?
