Hey Wooster love the idea! I like the way this describes a story.

Would be cool maybe to have a graph showing progress in the session, ($ by hand #) and you can click on each point on the graph to have it take you to the corresponding hand. So for example if it's all going well and then it downtrends you can navigate easily to where the downtrend starts.

Also I'm not sure if this is useful or gimmicky, but for each hand a voting button perhaps saying "played well or played badly" might be quite interesting

Maybe also a 'star this hand' button so the person who posted the session can bring peoples attention to a certain point. The stars can appear on the graph as well.

A few comments on the style if that's OK, a hand with no comments the comment box should be faded or something similar imo, it would be nice to be able to scroll down and quickly see which hands have comments over ones (the majority) that don't. Also with the hand display:

Quote:
BB: t1520 76 BBs
Hero (BTN/SB): t1480 74 BBs
Imo it would be nice if these were in columns so they are presented more neatly (I think they don't do this as forums generally don't allow that sort of spacing). Also options for commas in the values to make it easier to read, HH's from final tables are always a little tricky to see who has 10x more than someone else as there's only 1 digit in it and they are not in columns

Also

Quote:
Hand #32
Hand #32
You don't need it twice imo, again not sure if you can change it as it might be a constraint of the converter

Thanks for the idea, would be cool to add that in the future.

Another feature I would like to add is some way of filtering out the irrelevant hands... for example, the person who submits the session can flag important/unimportant hands which will show up more/less prominently on the session page. Unimportant hands will probably start as collapsed unless notes/comments are added to them.

HA!! Clicked reply before you made your edit looks like we were thinking along the same lines

Re design: Thanks for the tips. I def want to make it easier to get to the relevant hands. Still debating how to do this, but thinking along the lines of rating each hand according to notes/comments/votes etc. Hands that are deemed unimportant will be minimised.

Actually already fixed this, but the session I linked to was a bit old.

Sorry yeah, my posting is pretty bad I always post something then just keep editing it until I'm happy with it which isn't optimal!

For filtering out irrelevant hands simple filters like "hide if pot < 5 bb" might be good

Also it might be good instead of linear comments per hand have them sort of Reddit style, this seems to make more sense to me when discussing hands in depth as the discussion can branch into different routes if your intention is for discussion to happen

I would eventually like to have a commenting system that is half way between stack overflow and reddit... I would like the comments to appear liner, but would also like to have upvoted comments be more prominent... e.g. comments > x votes are in bold comments < x votes default to minimised.

My posting style is the same.

I think some way of linking hands is needed. I.e. I discuss some read and link to an earlier hand or series of hands that helped me develop said read. There's some room to come up with something clever here.

Would be quite easy to implement a hash tag... e.g. embedding #hand22 would link to you hand 22.

Wooster,

Excellent work. My immediate thought, too, for the most important next feature is filtering. I think even a "show only postflop hands" would be pretty helpful.

As for a larger feature that would be nice: the ability to view hands in a replayer or as a list (current way).

Good luck!

Is there any way in c# to raise an event in one class and subscribe to that event/handle it in another class that is only related to the first via namespace? Also, is it common to get tilted by events?

ryan, wrt to your old account there's a big thread in ATF how to get it back. cliffs: email SGT RJ or Bobo Fett with some secret details about your old account only you would know and they can possibly sort it out

MrWooster: I think for crowd evaluation a vote button "played hand well/not well" would be good, would be nice to have for learning tools and so forth

The site's layout is also a bit too clinical for my taste

Really appreciating the feedback on my project have put together a filtering system for the hands. At the moment you can filter hands according to which street they reach. The filters persist across sessions and are set per poker session (i.e. it will remember your settings).

Here is an example of the filter https://pkrsess.com/h/y (the schema has changed a bit so it wont work on older submissions).

Edit: Just noticed that the 'click to expand' feature doesnt work, will get that fixed.

nice work. good suggestions also. not sure if it was mentioned but you could add an option to display all chip counts in # of BB also.

It does this already... e.g. t1350 BB 35

My bad! Maybe I should have followed suit and edited after posting

What about in the description of the action
Quote:
Hero bets t20, BTN/SB calls t20
becomes
Quote:
Hero bets 1 BB , BTN/SB calls 1 BB
It might just be a personal preference on my behalf.

That would be nice, but I am kinda limited by the hand converter. Post processing of the hand is very CPU intensive and a bit hacky as i essentially have to use regular expressions to edit the HTML I get back from the hand converter, so I dont want to mess with it too much.

Random SQL Question - I am trying to add a Column to an access table using DDL / SQL.

Currently I am using
Code:
ALTER TABLE ControlPrefix
ADD COLUMN RepairNumberValueType  long;
Which works great EXCEPT for the fact that I want the column to be between Columns B and C instead of the end (mostly to make table easier to see). Is this possible?

Couldn't/shouldn't this kind of thing be done client side, since it is simply a view preference? Doing this kind of substitution should be pretty fast if you design it right (I would think). Having said that, it seems like a small issue. Having said that, you might find lots of these "small issue" view preference requests, so it might be worth looking into just to play with all the new client side app toys out there, especially since you're a js fan. I've been looking at knockout.js, ember.js, and angular.js lately. All are cool, I think I might like angular best at this point.

Ye, your right, it could be done client side. All the client side JS is currently handled using backbone.js which is an awesome tool. Need to be careful tho because if someone posts a session with hundreds of hands, processing them all client side could start to hang the browser.

True, but there should be a limit on the hand per page anyway and an ajax paging mechanism of whatever sort you like.

Good point... need to look into a max number of hands. Should be able to handle several hundred with no problem but not sure what would happen if a huge session was entered.

probably you'd want to limit the max session hands for anonymous users as well. that way people can try it out with no signup, but if they want to enter huge sessions they need to signup, and then you can just persist the hands beyond whatever your MAX_PER_PAGE turns out to be.

I think there will just have to be a flat max hands per session, then initially display x amount on the page. I would rather have an 'infinate scroll' rather than page 1/2/etc .

Regarding anon users, at the moment I want to make it as open as possible for everyone... users only need to sign up to comment, but it would be a nightmare to moderate comments otherwise. I think that if people like the service, they will sign up as it means they can persist the ownership of their sessions. As an anon user, you can only edit your poker session until your browser session expires.
