That's a definite possibility.

I've thought about this a lot, how one would go about creating a sort of secure internet, but is it really possible? MACs can be spoofed, etc.
is this a joke?

The solution to the internet is to make it more Marxist?

Are you commenting on the article specifically, what Noodle wrote specifically, or both? The article is decent I think in that it describes problems and remedies. The author does indicate that he advocates a voluntary system where people have a choice. The overall tone of the article doesn't seem like it is Marxist at all to me but maybe I just didn't get your point.

This is true, but maybe ubiquity was the wrong word. I already see basic web programming being taught in disciplines where you wouldn't necessarily expect it. The one that immediately comes to mind is library sciences.

I just feel more people will become familiar with programming languages especially as more problems may be solved with computation and tech continues to permeate our lives.

I agree that more advanced programming is harder to teach but basic programming and syntax & semantics of languages is relatively simple. I think with advancements in languages syntax and semantics could become even more accessible to inexperienced users.

Haha I agree with this and I think it's a better way to say what I was trying to say above.

It's tough to tell if 50 years is a long enough way off for sufficiently advanced AI to be developed. I think as more companies make it their focus to achieve other things (personal assistant programs, driverless cars, etc) there are bound to be breakthroughs in hardware and software design to facilitate this.

I would have to disagree about the world war comment only because as far as I know (certainly not an expert) the world has only been getting more stable politically and safer overall in terms of murder, war, etc.

I could certainly see the economic collapase. That may even happen multiple times in that 50 year period.

Yeah war may be a stretch. It just seems to me that we're moving to a less stable place with more nations becoming more nationalist. This isn't politics so let's just ignore my pessimism

The types of programming generally discussed in this forum are completely obsolete within 30 years.

50 years is a very very long time in computing. 60 years ago we didn't even have the integrated circuit!

Hey guys, hoping for some general website creation help here... I'm making an Android game and basically want a simple site/wiki that I can use as a launching point for the game, plus be a repository of information (descriptions of story, skills, etc.).

I'm obv a coder, but I've always hated web dev so html/css from scratch is definitely not an option. Not sure if there's a good blog hosting service I should just jump on, or go with wordpress, or what. Ideally I'd like it all to be free (don't need a legit domain name or anything) since this is mostly just personal satisfaction and probably <10 people will ever see this. Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

ETA: I should also mention that in the past I've used WordPress for making a simple site for a family member and it seemed simple enough, but the experience wasn't super enjoyable... it all just felt bloated and unintuitive. I've also tried this GitHub/Jekyll thing, but it seems like an absolute nightmare. I spent hours trying to figure out how layouts and includes work and then it ended up breaking my theme and I just said **** it.

Guessing from his recent posts with the high spec rig, I expect he means traditional / procedural / functional programming will be obsoleted by machine learning and the like. Kinda like (arguably) ASM is obsoleted by higher level languages by now.

Right - we're the lucky ones. Programmers will be rounded up into work camps, while the rest of humanity is harvested for resources.

The Agile process will be replaced with "Fix this bug now or die" - which will prove exceptionally motivational.

As far as UI goes (the team I'm in), I got 100% of the revenue generating projects for 2016. Luck of the draw or on purpose?

Browsing Quora just found a link to useful git command. This git command would have saved me like oodles of time trying to trouble shoot which team member introduced a new bug.

All the eggs in one basket = on purpose.

You are their LeBron.

It's a great position. Deliver on these things, and you are the MVP.

Or is it obvious that they will be handling it when I get back? Am I over thinking things??
Update: They emailed saying they decided not to fly people up and will instead do a remote video interview. Wondering what they are going to throw at me during the interview.

I might finally start a new job search. A certain someone in my team seems to have forgotten that the majority of tasks that were assigned to him were actually completed by me... some of which sat idle for weeks. The fix in many cases took an hour or two of investigation and a fraction of that time to implement the fix. One issue sat unresolved for 3 weeks. It took half an hour of prodding around then 30 seconds to fix.

They were just planning to hire the first decent candidate btw. This is optimal for any sort of hiring at lower levels of engineering. (This is basically everyone unless you are managing a bunch of people or in the running for an ACM.)
