Wasn't Swing "replaced" by JavaFX anyways? At least that's Oracle's position iirc
You should ask this in class...ask if they teach what they know or what is relevant :P

Let me reiterate the main point. The way you think about programming in Prolog is quite different (imo). It always helps to reiterate that you should think about describing what the result looks like.
So in you case the thought process would be..."mhhhh how could i describe all possible combinations of a list"..."well if the first element is either the same or not the same for every element I will get all combinations". Obviously this leap isn't easy but it gets easier with practice (same for thinking recursively)

shoot me

to top it off he told us last week that he's trying to pick topics that are gonna be "relevant" when we graduate and ummmm no

I like it when we do core stuff, like data structures was fun and actually useful, then he'll spend a whole 2 weeks on useless GUI stuff and I wanna die

What kind of script?

http://choosealicense.com/

Edit: I guess maybe this is even more basic. Once you choose a license just write the license you're using somewhere and either include or link to the full text of the license.

ty,

is there a way to make a exe file expire every month, and then for them have to request a new file from you? so kind of self delete after a certain time frame and not able to copy it within that time frame. (guessing the no copy is impossible to stop)

So, I take it you aren't interested in the GNU license.

From a business perspective, your idea is incredibly stupid. If you have your program behind a paywall, you can at least have a payment reminder set up and features shut off when they are past the grace period. To nuke the software, delete user settings, then force the user to search for your product to download it again and reinstall from scratch is about the most ******* thing you can ever do. Very few people will go on the epic search to find your product again when better alternative exist.

There are obviously techniques you can use to keep your product from being hijacked and force payment, but just like PhotoShop and Excel, a determined person will copy it and distribute it for free, which, counter-intuitively, is what you'd love to have happen. That is a badge of showing that your product is worthwhile, and aside from the minority that steals, you'd have a large majority of honest people buying your product.

yeh i know thats a really ******ed idea. but im just going to be sending it to about 5 people max for free who dont really know too much about computers, and if i fall out with one of them somewhere down the line or something happens, i want there to be a way they cant use it or resend it to other people. there isnt really that many user settings either, about 4\5 number changes which i can store my end

(sorry i should of made everything way more clear in my original post, pretty dumb of me not to and have prob got terminology wrong somewhere)

Now I really wanna know what is in the script.

If you're storing stuff on your end, does that mean you have an API that your script calls? If so, just make it call your api occasionally to verify it has access. Or if they're not very good with computers just check the date in your code and don't work if its after a certain date.

Most likely you're way over thinking this and way over valuing the worth of your script.

the heartbleed bug is real. a friend pulled some valid logins off yahoo without even trying, really. i've seen reports of people getting 1000 logins/hr off a single site, and other crazy stuff. if you have any webservers that are vulnerable, fix them!

I just made a swing applet for a chick that was having a bad day and wanted me to draw her a banner that says she's awesome.

I can't draw for **** so I just made an applet bounce her name around the frame and change colors. If it gets me laid I feel that would be an xbox achievement.

Yeah, it's crazy. We ended up patching everything we could, resetting all passwords, and not using any site that hadn't patched their **** (there's a github tool that'll tell you if a site is vulnerable or not). Huge pain in the ass.

Anyone using heartbleed to actually extract user data from a US corporations website is incredibly foolish

Also, I don't know much about this sort of thing but is there any scope here for SSL companies to actually have to pay up on any warranites they offer?

Does anyone have a link to the GH-tool? Didn't find it on a quick google. I fully expect my webhosting provider to be vulnerable to this.
Edit: nevermind, this should do the trick: http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/

That link seems better. This is what we used: https://github.com/FiloSottile/Heartbleed

Edit: Looks like that link is using the tool.

The 'nice' thing about Heartbleed is that its so big and bad that proactive smaller people really didn't have anything to worry about since there were much better targets out there for malicious people.

To be completely frank you should try to have a better attitude. Absolutely anything you learn at this point in your development as a computer programmer will be valuable to you. Stuff the frustrates you might even be more valuable. At least for me those 3am beating-your-head-against-the-wall sessions are where I learn the most.

Wax-on, wax-off, etc.

We have one client that was getting attacked by Chinese IPs when we launched their site. Really hoping this doesnt cause a headache with them.

How overblown is this thing? I understand it's a very serious security breach, but I've been using my credit card online for 10+ years and I have used it on some veeeery scrupulous websites, online poker included. I used my cc/debit card for nearly every purchase I make and I've not once had my info stolen. Am I just lucky or is stuff like this just absolutely ridiculous paranoia?

also can confirm chick thinks i'm a wizard. my love for swing has not increased whatsoever.
