Hi,

I want to make a backup line in order to get a more stable connection. I have a DSL connection and I want to back it up with a 3g connection. The reason why I'm doing this is because I usually have disconnections from pokerstars once every 2-3 days. It happens for a couple of minutes. It's interesting that google works during these "disconnections" but most of other sites, including pokerstars doesn't. So I want to be able to connect via 3g during these kind of disconnections.

Does anyone have any experience on how to do that? I googled it for several hours and I see that it is possible to buy a "Dual Wan" router, although it's quite difficult to select one since it's not easy to filter by this function.

Also the solution might be to just buy a 3g modem and use program called Connectify Dispatch.

Although I have some possible solutions it's somewhat hard to predict whether it will work out or not. So any experience and ideas are really appreciated.

this indicates that it may be on stars' end rather than yours. have you contacted stars support to see if there's anything you can do?

I'm pretty sure that it's on my end.

PokerStars has this kind of network testing tool: https://gyazo.com/05b362dd64a74e99f43f40ea472585ed

So when the disconnection appears I can connect to US East Coast only. If I open my web browser then most of the websites are down during this period. I mean, if everything is working and PokerStars is not then of course the problem is on their side. But if google is working and everything else is not then it's obviously on my side, right?

And sure I've contacted support and they told me that the problem is on my side.

Can you post the results of the tests? This would help highlight where the problem is.

Edit: from your description I'm not sure a dual WAN router would help. Most of them work by monitoring the connections and failing over to #2 when #1 fails. In your case it sounds like your connection is not actually dropping, so it wouldn't know to fail over.

Could tell a lot more with the results of the PS network trace tool.

Well,

I don't have a specific screenshot right now, but when the disconnection happens it just shows "Very good(100%)" for US East Coast and "Bad (0%)" for all the others.

Or do you want some other information from me?

I agree that I might need to unplug the cable manually during the disconnection which is obviously not convenient. What do you think about Connectify Dispatch program? Will it work?

You could try and run a traceroute to the pokerstars IP. You can leave it up while you play and if you disconnect you can see what's going on and where it stops having connection.

Okay, I will determine the host on which the problem occurs. I don't understand how will it help me.

When you run the Pokerstars tool (and click the advanced button), it shows the full route of traffic between you an Pokerstars - if you can show us a screenshot of that we will be able to tell you where the problem lies.

The reason we need this is because the problem can be at your computer, your router, a modem (if you have one too), your ISP or beyond your ISP. We can spend all year trying to make your computer work only to find out the problem was at the router.

Connectify Dispatch provides a form of load balancing. The problem with doing this is that Pokerstars will see that you are using 2 different IP addresses - they will not like this and will probably give you more hassle in the long run.

I don't quite understand why are you looking into some 3rd party tools for that. I'm on Stars as well and every time my main line is acting out I simply take out 3G modem from my drawer, plug it into pc, start modem software and click connect. At takes 15-20 seconds at most. There is no reason to have it connected all the time. While there are routers out there (and custom firmwares) where you could plug your 3G modem in usb port and setup it to use 3G in case of the main line failure, it's just overcomplicates things imo.

An el cheapo Asus DSL router will do Dual WAN with 3G fallback in any recent firmware.
