Running 65 processes!!! What is safe to remove??? Running 65 processes!!! What is safe to remove???

01-18-2010 , 02:11 PM
After some help in recovering my system I am now looking to optimize it before I put back all my major programs. HEM, Itunes, etc.

According to my task manager I have 65 currently running processes.
I know that number can be reduced greatly...but I am hesitant to remove or disable any of them for fear that I will screw things up.

What information do I need to provide to make this happen?

Rail,
The guys here seem to prefer that you post your own logs in your on thread, so as not to confuse things.

Since you are using Vista it's not that many imo. I tweaked as much as I could from the Windows XP videos Funkyworms made, and I still have about 66-70 processes running depending on what I am doing.

Most likely you won't end up with less processes, instead will probably get advice on what to upgrade or switch too.

65 processes is not bad for for Vista. Please also post your HJT uninstall log.

Also, stop using Internet Explorer. Get Firefox now.

I recommend using Windows Defender to disable the following startup items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

Thanks for the feedback...when I switch over to Firefox should I be disabling or removing IE8 in any way?

Here is the other log...
At least this is the one I think you wanted.
UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED, DO NOT POST THIS LOG.
