I have a HP Pavilion a6230n with a M2N68-LA (Narra2) motherboard. I purchased four 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz RAM sticks that are suppose to be compatible with my motherboard. When I booted up the system after installation I heard 1-short beep followed by 1-long beep. This is suppose to be a code for memory problems according to this link I've tried multiple configurations with no success (two new sticks and two old, only two new sticks, etc.) As soon as I put all the old RAM sticks back the system boots up perfectly.

I have no clue how to fix this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Were there 2 sticks or 4 sticks previously? What was the speed and timings of the old memory? A program like CPU-Z (cpuid.com) can tell you

Does it POST with just one new stick? I mean one stick total. No old sticks at all.

have you overclocked your cpu or ram ?
you can try to set the bios back to the default values and see if it works.

No, it won't boot with any combination of the new sticks. I can't remember 100% but I tried, 1, 2 in dual channel, other 2 in dual channel, and probably a few more combinations.

Never overclocked. I read somewhere that I might need to update my BIOs to recognize the RAM. Any truth to this? If so, where would I go to download an update?
