"Toner Low" - Supposedly "Toner Low" - Supposedly

The display on my printer has been "Toner low" for quite some time now. I've just kept printing, assuming that when the toner runs out, the pages will print grey, there will be blank spots, etc.

But there haven't been.

And it's been hundreds of pages by now. Maybe the display is wrong and the printer is misgauging the amount of toner.

Is there any risk to just continuing to print? Will anything overheat, or get worn down, or deteriorate in any way if I print and there's no toner left in the cartridge?

I am not an expert on printers but I wouldn't think this is a problem. If it is, you will not be alone because I don't pay any attention to these warnings either.

I just buy a cartridge and wait for the print to start fading before I change the old one. Nothing has exploded yet. If you don't have a cartridge ready you will, of course, run out of toner at the worst possible time.

I'm glad to hear there have been no explosions.

I've had a cartridge ready ever since I saw the claim of low toner.

Before you replace the toner cartridge, remove it, and shake it side-to-side a few times to redistribute the toner. (Don't rotate it.) You should get a few hundred more pages.

And double check the error message. If it says "PC Load Letter", you might as well get a new one.

Depending on what printer it is. the "Toner Low" message can appear a couple of thousand pages before it is needed to be replaced. It really is nothing to worry about - no damage will be caused by it running out of toner, it will just give you really bad quality prints / blank pages as the ink depletes.
