Quick Questions Thread!!! Quick Questions Thread!!!

Thought I would make this thread (I've haven't seen one in this part of the forum), Just because I have a question that I don't really wanna make a separate thread, I'm not sure if this is a good idea so if mods don't feel like this is a good idea then please take it down.

This thread should be good for stuff like quick fixes, small simple problems... Basically if you feel your questions is a bit "nooby" then it probably should go here.

for example "how do I activate windows" or "How do I extend my monitor to my 2nd monitor"

Peace out

My question is,

I have a OEM version of windows 8.1 installed on my MAC Via bootcamp. I don't see me using it ever again, Can I uninstall and re sell it? I simply have no use for it anymore.

You can't do that, because that particular OEM version has been linked to that particular hardware it is installed on. It will not validate on other systems.

damn that blows guess I will just have to keep it on there, just in case I decide to use it again. Thanks though

My quick question is why haven't we had a thread until now and now that we have it, why hasn't it been stickied already.

This can't be true as it would make hardware upgrades/changes impossible. In fact I've found a German ebay article regarding reselling Microsoft OEM products saying that such restrictions don't exist with XP/Vista/7+. It says that you can activate an OEM Windows version on any PC unless
- you're using a brand X recovery DVD with a brand Y license key (CoA);
- you've exceeded the number of allowed product activations;
- the last product activation is less than a certain number of days (120?) ago.
You should then however still be able to activate it via phone support.

It also says that reselling an OEM version of Windows is perfectly legal (in Germany ldo), but attaching a CoA that has been physically removed from a computer may violate trademark rights. Obviously, jurisdiction in other countries may differ.

You can make hardware upgrades but AFAIK you may run into problems if they are extensive (like a complete new motherboard).
Windows is not going to kick your ass for putting in another HD or putting in 4 GB more of memory

I didn't want to start a thread because I'm not looking for specific building advice just some general advice at this strage.

I'm looking to upgrade my tech setup at home within the next 12 months. Computer on a budget $450ishCAD and I would prefer a desktop (I have a monitor + peripharals). Problem is I don't know what i'm going to need for a "poker" PC. What's the most important parts to place emphasis on when purchasing? FWIW the use I anticipate is running PT4/a couple of different poker sites open at the same time ,maybe some older gaming (think GOG + med/high settings 3/4 year old titles), occasional HD video streaming and whatever poker software I might need to run that i'm not running now.

Small note is I use my computers for a long time 7+ years on average and although I've never built an entire PC I have changed various parts (RAM, CPU, HD, VC, PSU) so I assume this is the best value per $ spent vs. buying from a manufacturer?
