PLZ help me get Audio from laptop to TV with consistency via hdmi cable.

So i used to grind on my tv as an extended desktop to my notebook and have always had to just cross my fingers that the sound would work.. and it normally would come out of either the laptop of tv,, but now i can't seem to get it to ever come out the tv (which was preffered)
so FML, please help!
