You'll still be able to use 3GB of the RAM and it's unlikely you'll really notice much difference between 3GB and 4GB. You'll also save yourself some potential headaches by sticking with a 32bit OS and if you really want, you can always upgrade at a later date.

what's with making two threads? There's almost three hours between each thread so it's not like it was an accidental double post.

My $0.02
I would have thought you would kick yourself more over ordering a HP with a 1680 x 1050 display in place of the Dells 1920 x 1200 display more than you would ever notice the difference between 3GB of RAM and 4GB of RAM.

Getting a 17" laptop without 1920x1200 would be a pretty huge blunder imo - much more so than any other component.

Thanks again for all the replies..

Im sorry im no computer genius just did a search about vista and found all this stuff out..

I just really like to have alot of stuff running.. Pokertracker 3, IMs, ect. I hate when my machine freezes, ect..

My dell xps has 2g of mem. and im not overly thrilled with its performance.. I hate dell customer service and had some problems with preinstalled software they put on my xps, and they were no help..

I just figured resoultion wouldnt be that big of deal with resizeable tables, and thought this would help me with extra performance.. Thought doubling the memory I have now would be enough but then found out i wouldnt be using all of it which seemed like nonsense...

I still dont know what im gonna do the dell coupon i was gonna use expired and the one for HP expires in two days.. Idk what im gonna do.

I cant tell you how much this helps though this forum is prolly most helpful one out there.. Thanks again..

I'd go with the Dell. What were the specs on your old pc? Most people here are also multitasking maniacs, my self included. I often have a handgrabber, pt , pokeracehud, itunes, multiple im's, couple browser windows and other programs with a similar configuration to what you're looking at and it runs great. It really doesn't matter a whole lot the amount of ram you get because you probably won't be using it all even with all those applications.

The biggest thing i would look for is a real nice cpu and some quality ram. Both configurations look real solid and you should be pleased with either. Being a poker player, I would probably go with the dell mostly because of the higher resolution which you will really like, even with resizeable tables. In my experience in the corporate world, dell is solid. I don't know what your experience or problems with them were before, but maybe you should post them in a different thread or post your system specs. Also, there's tools out there to specifically decrapify your pc of the preinstalled garbage it comes with. When you buy one of these, hit me up and i'll link you to them.

man thanks alot to everyone who helped me in here.. prlly gonna go with the dell after much flip flopping, i guess ill just get 4g of ram and 32 bit vista.. Which sounds like its not that big of a deal??

I guess i can always upgrade later right?

the deciding factors were i guess the resolution and it looks like its gonna be a hundred dollars cheaper..

and yes im a multi tasking maniac and want everything running smoothly i hope this is the machine im looking for.. Ill contact for those links thanks again...

Id still welcome any more opinions i prlly wont order till monday.. that gives me more time to flip flop ty and glall
