so do i install my OS on it? PT? PotsgreSQL DB?

basically i'm joining the 21st century and plan on using PT2/PokerAceHUD on tilt, want to maximize performance/minimize lag for that

thanks!

edit - already have vista installed on a 7200 rpm drive, don't care if i have to reformat/reinstall windows

I am no expert, but I think (from reading a few older threads), you want the OS and Applications on the C drive. Then you want SQL installed to the D drive (raptor), so the database gets all the speed benefits of the good drive, with no performance hit from the OS and Applications on the other drive. I would get HoldemManager or PT3, because PT2/PAHUD are awful, in comparison to the next gen trackers, in terms of performance.

Definitely wait for some of the more experienced/knowledgeable hardware guys to post. I am pretty clueless when it comes to hardware, to be honest.

My dream machine would have a 150GB Raptor for the OS and Apps, and a 300GB Raptor for my SQL DB and all my Graphics/Data files. Then a WD 640GB for backup and media. I wont be able to afford that machine for quite some time, unfortunately.

DB will definitely benefit more from decreased access time on the raptor. if maximizing PT2 performance is your goal then that is my recommendation.

if you want general system performance increased then partition 10-15GB for a swap file and install your OS/applications on the rest of it

if you use it as your boot disk, you will probably start up faster. How big is the drive?

what do you use your computer for?

nothing too special, i just want to play 8-16 tables with a tracker and an HUD running with minimal lag. i plan on moving to stars after the first of the year so i won't have any giant datamined dbs to worry about.

this is the one i got

don't load it up with photos, songs, and videos and programs - save that for the 7200 drive.
