AGP is a very dated interface and you aren't going to find any quality videocard that uses it. PCI-E is what you want.

What is your price range? >$100? >$200?

Since it's a 30" monitor you may have to spend a little bit more. Here's a good starting point.

It looks like that PC is running a 300W power supply with one PCI-E x16 (video card slot) available. Even the card I linked recommends a 400W power supply. Unfortunately, brands like HP usually use proprietary stuff so you may not be able to upgrade the power supply by simply buying one.

Also, the specs here

Say that there is only PCI-E x16 available. If that's the case (no PCI-E 2.0) you may have trouble upgrading to a very powerful card. Someone more experienced than me (or someone with more time for research) is going to have to give you more advice as to how upgradeable this machine really is.

Anything you can buy new online now wiht a DVI or DisplayPort will support 30" monitor unless you get a realllllllly old model (like 3+years, pre-GeForce.)

When I bought the cpu they said I could just buy a power supply. You lost me on the pci stuff are you saying that because of the power supply issue or somthing else?

Thanks for all the help

I think this should be able to handle swapping a PSU. I have had more than a couple boxes that were HP, and in both I managed to swap out the power supply on both with relative ease. On one it was a little tedious, but it managed to eventually get in there okay.

At any rate, your price-range is actually pretty critical here? It could mean the difference between a good mid-range card that will last several years under whatever you might toss at it or a low-end card that barely meets your current requirements.

Also, I have to ask, do you plan on ANY gaming? That will greatly affect the recommendation.

This isn't really on topic, but what happens if you were to add the gpu and leave the 300W psu? What kind of problems could I encounter?

Thanks.

No gaming just poker. I'm willing to spend up to $150 if need be, but Id like to find a good one for less

When the GPU ramped up to full load and started trying to pull >300W out of a 300W supply, the inductors in the power supply will overheat to the point where they burn the board that they're soldered to and brick the power supply itself.
