Hi

i use my desktop for playing Poker (with HM2, NoteCaddy, StarsHelper), making mods with Gimp and a lot of creating notes for NoteCaddy.

This is my current setup:

AMD FX 6300, hexa-core @ 3.5 GHz
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 motherboard
8 GB RAM 1333
Geforce GTX 550 ti
2 x Samsung 840 pro (one for the database, one for programs and Win7 64bit)

These are the upgrade-options for me:

Option 1

Intel I7 4770
Asus Z87 pro motherboard
Be Quiet! L8-400W Pure Power ( my old power-supply can't handle Haswell)

i would sell the Geforce as the integrated GPU of the I7 is enough for my needs.

Option 2

AMD FX 8350
Asus M5 A99X Evo (my old motherboard can't support the FX 8350)

I know the benchmarks for both.....but i'm not sure if maybe the 4 modules of the AMD-chip would give me a better performance regarding NoteCaddy than the 4 Intel-cores.

Any input really appreciated

If you can afford it you will be very happy with option one.

Opt on option 1. I wouldn't sell the GPU. You don't seem to be short on cash, so keep it. Might be handy for extra screens or gaming now and then!

^ Yeah you'll hardly get $100 for it.

Well, but i don't need the graphic-card (don't play games, one 24" is enough for me). The integrated graphic of the I7 should be good enough for me.

If i store the card then with my collection of old HDDs (always keep them )......my wife will make me trouble . Our locker is full of her clothes (and she has nothing to dress....at least she says that).

I don't understand why you'd want to get rid of the GPU... You have it, use it! You don't even need to use the GPU on the CPU, thus reducing the heat generated on the CPU thus increasing it's life span. Just keep the GPU mate..

I would take option 1 due to the i7.
