is my cable modum done? is my cable modum done?

I've had the same one like 6 years. I still get internet 98% of the time but in the past few months it has been cutting out more than it should as a professional poker player.

I called comcast and they said my modum is too old and is the problem. Unplugging the coaxil cable and replugging it in sometimes fixes the problem. Also if I just leave it alone for a few hours the internet will often turn back on.

Is it the modum? any other ideas?

Yeah, I would replace it. I had problems with modems before.

Imho, I am paying for 24-hour service, 7 days a week, and they better notify me for downtimes. If they can't, they better fix it or I'm getting another provider.

Before replacing it.... Check all the cable connections. If you have a crimping tool, redo all the cable ends. Including the end at the cable box entering the house.

Also power cycle the modem (opposed to just resetting it)

Having just left this particular industry I can tell you a few things:

A 6 year old modem just needs replaced. No questions asked.

Most likely your ISP is now or will soon run an updated version of DOCSIS that your modem might not support. You could be getting drastically reduced speeds vs. what you're paying for.

If you do buy a new modem and that doesn't fix the problem, save the receipt, but also call your provider to remove the modem from you account. Some stores will resell them and this can cause problems.
