Monitor Or TV? Monitor Or TV?

Sorry if this is not in the right forum but i think this is the best to ask.

I want to buy a new monitor/TV i.e. i want to be able to use it as a dual view monitor for multli tabling with poker as well as blue ray and ps3 use.

So which should i go for, a monitor or a TV. The two main choices, (but please feel free to recommend others) are as follows:

A 26" Samsung monitor with built in free view and lots of connections, hdmi, scart, component etc with a resolution of 1900 x 1200. Which cost £380

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Touch-...6771673&sr=8-3

Or a Toshiba TV which is 32" resolution of 1900 x 1080, the same connectivity, one extra HDMI, plus free view. Which cost £450

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-32XV.../dp/B0013HKTF0

Another cheaper possibility is JUST a monitor for £270

http://www.amazon.com/Hanns-G-HG281D...6772055&sr=8-1

My fear is that the TV will not work great when multi tabling, giving eyes a strain, lagging, ghosting etc. Also that 32" will be far too big to look at when playing poker at a short distance. But on the other side fearing that the monitor will not play video / DVD/ Blue rays very well. As for the third one, it is only a montior, no free view and very limited connectivity.

Any other thoughts on which to go for or for anything else that i should consider? I am looking for a technical view point regarding all these refresh rate, Hrts, contrast ratio, response time etc issues

Thanks

I'm in need of a TV for poker/gaming so if anyone has opinons or has any real good experiences with a certain model then post here please. (without hijaking OP's thread just didnt want to start a whole new thread for something tht can be answered here)

In answer to your question OP, I'm mainly going for a TV because the way i can from playing poker>watching tv>playing ps3/xbox or w/e. It also saves a ton of space and is a cheaper way of getting everything i want =)

I recently got a 40" HD TV for my front room.I use it to play poker on.HD cable>>>Laptop use the laptop 17" screen to browse net or do whatever else on it and use the 40" TV to play poker on.I only 6 table max at the moment but you could comfortably play 12 tables with no overlap.

12 tableing

6 tables, easy on my eyes,I'm blind already thats why I got this set up lol

PartyScout,

Can you list info on your TV and laptop? TV make, model, price, 1080p? Laptop hooked up through HDMI?

Really appreciate the comments guys. But need more!

Party yeah some specs about your TV would be great, resolution, refresh rate etc. How easy is it on the eyes?

Does anyone have anything specific to say about the three options that i have listed as to which is the best buy?

Thanks to all

Monitors have the advantage of more pixels so therefore more tables can be fitted onto them. TVs have less pixels but are generally bigger allowing for a larger image. Decide which you want imo.

I made this decision last week and went with the LG 24" to pair with my old Samsung 204B. So, take from that what you will.

That doesn't make sense. How did you get 12 tables without overlap? Here in your own album is a pic of 9 tables which overlap (what I expected)

I think if the resolution is 1920 by 1080 9 tables can be done with NO overlap whatsoever. 12 tables i think is has very little over lap, it could even look like there isn't any because its so small.

I am thinking of going towards the monitor side as playing on a 32" from a short distance will burn my eyes out. Anyone know what films / blue ray look like on these monitors, or any new monitors these days?

Thanks

well 24" widescreen monitors are generally 1900x1200 which is greater than 1080p, therefore I would imagine they will look as good as a TV of the same size. However the difference between 720p and HD etc on a 24" screeen might be negligible to most people viewing

I recently got a 24" BenQ monitor, with the intention of getting a second around New Year. I can say that for watching 720p downloads on it is awesome and all the 1080p content I have watched and viewed is also great, however not quite as spectacular as on a my 42" sony bravia, but for ~1/4th of the price

I connect through HDMI cable yes.Really good and quick.Much better than connecting through a PC monitor cable, plus HDMI is a digatal perfect picture

There is a slight overlap 12-tabling with the 40" but only slight.I mean like 2mm of table on top of the table below and no overlap whatsoever on the sides.I would still say this is no overlap because you really have to glance hard to see it,so it appears as no overlap

There's a difference between Resizing and Overlap (Default window size)
