Occasionally, when I start up my laptop (HP dv2000, Vista Home Premium) the screen will stay black. You can hear it start up and the lights go on and everything, but the screen stays black. Even if you look close there's still no picture. This has happened to me a few times before, and I read somewhere that you need to remove the battery for awhile to reset the bios and it should start up. This has worked before, but not this time. One of the times when I tried to start up the computer, some of the lights were flashing. I There were two updates installed via Windows Update yesterday, both of which just said like "Update for Windows Vista" or something. Any help would be appreciated.

I ended up just turning it on unplugged with the battery in to see what would happen once the battery died, and part of the way through I decided to try plugging it in again. I turned it off/on, and it worked for now so thanks anyways. I just hope it will turn on again.

If anyone know why this happens or could tell me how to prevent/fix it quicker next time, that would be great.

You might try HP's site, they have FAQs is the support area for their computers. It's probably worth poking around over at www.hp.com.
