Hi all,

I'm looking for a laptop that will support the following tasks, to be performed simultaneously:

1) 24 Tables w/ Stack and Tile (On a 1920x1200 monitor)
2) HM2 w/ HUD

In addition, it should be able to run very fast simulations on a program like CREV. From what I understand, there wouldn't be a reason to spend more than $1,500 - $2,000 for a machine which is capable of this.

Which ones should I be looking at?

Thanks,

A

after you pick the size of laptop, i would look for one with a newer generation i7 quad core, a SSD big enough for your needs, and a mid range GPU like a gt 740, 750, 840, 850, 940 or its AMD equivalent like the HD 8790M. If you plan on playing games, you might want to get one with a better GPU. You should be able to find one for around $1k ~ $1.5k as long as you dont go for a mac.

@Love_the_game,

Great, thanks for your advice. I would think that a 17'' monitor would be best, and other than that, I'm really not familiar with basic computer parts, at the moment. Those seem easy enough to read off against the specs, though. Do you have any brands that you would recommend, in general?

ive had good experiences with samsung, lenovo, sager/clevo, Asus laptops. Acer laptops feel a little cheaper/flimsy to me but i havent tried the newer high end gaming ones. Dell has been making better and better laptops. But at your price point, they should all be good.

with the specs youre looking for, this the cheapest ($1300). its also only an inch thick and overall has good reviews.

Thanks, it looks like the Acer one got a bad review, for exactly what you were talking about (being cheap and flimsy). I had somebody else recommend the Asus ROG series, and though it's at the higher end of what I would like to spend, I'm investing in this for the next few years, and it would be financed, so I don't mind, because a good one will let me make more money.

Does this one look like it would do what I am looking for?

Asus rogs are great laptops but they are really beefy (around 2+ inches thick and 10+ lbs). If you dont plan on carrying it around too much its a great laptop.

that lenovo is a good laptop but has a standard hard drive with a SSD cache. Your windows will boot up fast but other programs will lag compared to a SSD. You can configure it to have a 256gb ssd.
