I was playing online poker and using gmail chat (from within a browser window) when without warning I got the following page instead

from a quick google it looks like this isn't the first time this has ever happened to anyone ever, but no one had a fix. Also, it seems it's usually associated with a "lockdown in sector 4" message which I did not get.

I don't have any 3rd party applications that can access gmail and I wasn't spamming anyone and I don't think my browser is ****ed (I cleared the cache anyway). The only thing from the notice is that I did have gmail open on both my laptop and my desktop, both on the same LAN. FWIW I'm using Firefox 3.5.2 on both machines, one is Windows XP one is Vista.

any ideas how to fix this? I hit the "contact us" button and sent them a message but it looks like it's more "report a bug" than a "HALP MY ACCOUNT IS LOCKED" helpline. I'm leaving the country early tomorrow morning and all my travel information is in there, so this isn't really a good time.

  1. Make sure you're logged off of gmail on all other computers.
  2. Try to log-in using a different browser.
  3. Try disabling all of your Firefox extensions then log-in.
  4. Try to log-in and download your mail using an email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird.
  5. Follow the malware sticky to make sure you're not infected with a botnet virus. Post all logs.

thanks for the advice, got the travel info from someone else so it's not such a priority now after all.

I would still follow the malware sticky to make sure there is no nastiness on your machine.

even better, I'm back now without doing anything. I'm going to write it off as a hiccup on gmail's end unless it happens again

I shouldn't think there is, I'm reasonably well protected. I'll take a look anyway in case there's something there I haven't thought of.
