Dual Channel Memory and 6Gs of Ram?? Dual Channel Memory and 6Gs of Ram??

Hey guys, I'm looking to order my new computer parts today to build my first computer. My roommate and I were looking over stuff and were confused on if my motherboard can use 6Gs of ram.

In my cart I have this MB:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131398

And this RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145222

My roommate thinks that dual channel means It will recognize either 2 sticks, or 4 sticks, but not 3 or 1. Is this the case? Is getting 6 Gigs a waste here and should I only get 4 and then another 4 further down the road?

And help would be greatly appreciated so I can get these parts ordered as soon as I can.

Thanks.

On most newer boards, using 3 slots will work, you just don't have access to dual channel mode. On some boards I've had to experiment with different slot configurations to get all 3 sticks to work, and in the past I've had motherboards where it was 1,2 or 4, and getting it to work with 3 sticks was beyond my capabilities.

What type of operating system are you using? Keep in mind that if you aren't using a 64 bit Windows, it won't recognize any RAM past 4 gigs.

Its a AMD Phenom x 4 3.2Ghz Black Edition, and I have the 64 bit windows. I decided to just get 2x2Gs of ram, and in a few months when I have some more money get another 2x2Gs.

Good choice as that board uses ddr3 memory in dual channel mode. So 3 sticks would work, but not as well as 2 or 4.
