welp good news is d2r seems to have pretty modest sys requirements

Processor: Intel Core i3-3250/AMD FX-4350.
Video: Nvidia GTX 660/AMD Radeon HD 7850

bad news is the only decent modern gpu available even remotely close to msrp is the GT 1030, which is a little bit weaker than the GTX 660. anything else you buy new really is a big waste of money. closest one you will find is >300$ and it's going to be a 7 year old card that msrp'ed for 150$ cause miners+covid. if you can find smth used that's close to that 660 and ~150$, get that. otherwise, a weaker GT 1030 for 100$ or wait, tho very much doubt there will be any gpu deals these holidays, since no stocks. if there are any, I'm guessing limited quantities and the bots will snatch them up in minutes.

just mentioned it as a point of reference
typically they do have some cheapo workstation and server grade parts but that's not for you, more for niche projects

ok just to clarify, should I be looking for anything specific or are you going to help me with the searching?
I'm itching for more parts lol

alright, imo I'd go with this configuration atm
just picked everything on newegg for less trouble, they had a few nice sales so why not
a bit overkill for your needs but the alternative would be to pay 20% less for a system that performs 40% worse in solver work. if you want that instead, replace the cpu with a R7 5800x and pick a cheaper cooler to go with it

cpu
https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-9-5...-_-ryzen+7-_-1
cooler
https://www.newegg.com/be-quiet-dark...13C-001F-00027
motherboard
https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b550-p...82E16813157936
ram
https://www.newegg.com/corsair-32gb-...82E16820236678
ssd
https://www.newegg.com/samsung-500gb...82E16820147803
psu
https://www.newegg.com/evga-750-b5-2...82E16817438165
case
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811147297?quicklink=true

total ~1k$

gpu you said you'll be using your 750 Ti till gpu prices normalize
motherboard has wifi and BT. the case will clear the cooler no prob. ram fits underneath the cooler.
that's about it, Windows you get off Microsoft's website, if you want to activate or not, that's your business, an OEM key is some 15-20$ from 3rd party sellers

idk if you managed to order everything in time but I can see some items in the list have gone up in price, as it was a 24h sale thing
so some choices there no longer relevant

ah damn, was doing family stuff yesterday.

i do have the ssd already

which ones are still good deals?

checked the parts with pc part picker and got these warnings:
Warning! The ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4/ac ATX AM4 Motherboard supports the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor with BIOS version P1.20. If the motherboard is using an older BIOS version, upgrading the BIOS will be necessary to support the CPU.
Note:The ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4/ac ATX AM4 Motherboard has an additional 4-pin ATX power connector but the EVGA B5 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply does not. This connector is used to supply additional 12V current to the motherboard. While the system will likely still run without it, higher current demands such as extreme overclocking or large video card current draws may require it.
Note:Some physical dimension restrictions cannot (yet) be automatically checked, such as cpu cooler / RAM clearance with modules using tall heat spreaders.

should i not worry about these?

you're right, there's a real concern of the board not taking a Ryzen 5000 chip with the bios version it ships with. unfortunately there's no way to know which bios version that is, as it doesn't say anywhere in the description or even on the box, so a bios update might be needed. this is the same for, as far as I know, any mobo out there, not just this specific one. it's just that B550 and X570 boards came first and Ryzen 5000 came second. boards manufactured lately have the update, early ones don't and you have no way of knowing how long one's been sitting on the shelves or which is recent.

now idk if Asrock supports bios flashing via usb drive, so I'l recommend a different mobo that does. if you cannot flash via usb, you need to mount a zen 2+ cpu to do it, which would very much suck for you. safer to go with the one below.

the stuff about the psu, ignore

Warning! Some AMD X570 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vermeer CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

considering pulling trigger on this right now

keyboard/mouse from your input on the keyboard/mouse thread which was super helpful - especially reading about difference in linear/click and seeing which i wanted (click)

i owe you a ton man (i suspect you're in europe but wherever you are i owe you a few rounds of beers) and especially since i will probably be again asking for help when i set it up

but you think this looks good and is all compatible, am i missing anything? I'm thinking i should add a non ssd hard drive?

hey Rick,

replace psu, ram and ssd for these, better value

any hdd or 2,5" ssd you add later is a 5 min job, can get one now if you have a lot of files to store or backup or see if you need it later
as far as these go, shop by price, not a lot of difference between them, performance not that important seeing as no apps will run from it

a word of caution on that monitor, 400$ seems like pretty poor value
where I live that same model is ~300 and it's not even on sale
now idk much about monitors so I'll let you do your own research

Cheers.
