I am having lots of disonnections while playing poker. Especially on Ipoker and FullTilt. Less on the other sites but still ocassionaly.

We have cable internet service and 2 computers hooked up - one direct to the router and one wireless.

The computer I play poker on is the wireless one.

We are using a DLink 602.11g router Model DI 524 rev A2 112

Computer in question:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHZ 1GB Ram

Dlink AirPlues Xtreme G DWL-G132 Wireless USB Adaptor (revA)

Distance from the router to poker computer is not very far (25 feet)

Signal strength is very good.

It never disconnects from the wireless network.

But when playing poker I often get frozen out and the site has to reconnect.

This can be expensive (playing Omaha I timed out holding nut fullhouses on 2 tables today)

The problem is worse if I am hooked up to internet at same time (but it still happens when not reading 2+2 while playing)

The other computer that is hard wired to the router has no problems.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time

Check what software you have running make sure you have no P2P programs on in the background.

Check for other wireless networks broadcasting on the same channel. If some one is using the same channel and their signal is strong enough it could be interfering with yours. Right Click either the “wireless network connection icon in the taskbar notification area, or open the icon for your wireless receiver in the same area, to see other local networks and the channel they’re broadcast on.

Two more questions for you

What operating system are you using?

Can you connect the laptop to the router by cable and see if you still get time outs?

XP Home service pack 2

It is a desktop but it is possible to move it and try hooking up the cable from the router

I will post again the results after trying that out (prob Sat sometime)

Thanks again

How many walls between you and the router?

Any cordless phones nearby?

Any Microwave ovens in between you and the router?

one thin wall and door is open - signal strength is excellent

no microwave

there is a cordless phone in the room where the poker computer is - I will unplug it and see what happens

Thanks again

After playing around for hours and hours and reading all kinds of posts in PT, PokerAce and this forum I found the following:

It is caused by some reaction between PT and Poker Ace

I found this out by playing poker only with the site (FullTilt) software open, then opened 2+2, then read emails, then opened up up Pt and then finally PokerAce

No problems occured until I opened PokerAce - then disconnects with FullTilt started occuring again.

I closed PokerAce and used GameTime+ - no disconnects

From suggestions on some of the posts on PokerTracker and Poker Ace forums I changed my database to PostgreSQL and downloaded the latest PokerAce beta version.

This seemed to work. I played on FullTilt (2 tables) with Pt and PA running while also reading 2+2. No disconnects. One short lag occured when PT was reading the hand history but it was very short and I had time to make my action at the table.

I hope this solves the problem. (i havent played on IPoker with these changes yet)
