Is Avira still one the best?

I need a new anti virus software, but I am not sure if Avira is still top notch.
I saw a conference / challenge held every year (on TV) about hackers cracking every well known AV program. within seconds and minutes. I cant remember the name of the event. (maybe someone does?)

Avira comes with Ask toolbar

what to recommend then? Idk. Reading posts from funkyworms and others, it looked OK.

I think I like Avast he best, but the differences between different AV's are really overrated. Bitdefender also has a free version which should be good
