Does it have a vga or dvi port on the side of it? What type is your monitor? I can run my monitor on my laptop, it's as easy as just hooking it up.

You shouldn't have to limit the size of the monitor to the laptop itself. Except the max resolution of the monitor display would be whatever the laptop is capable of. Which could make this somewhat irrelevant if it's much more significant.

I hooked a 24" to my laptop via vga cable and it worked fine. However like stated before it was only able to do about a 1200x800 resolution (forget exact numbers) when the monitor is about 1900x1200 (again, forget exact number).

AFAIK the t42 runs the 30" monitors at max res

also, excellent use of 'labtop'

Macbook pro is like 1 of 3 "labtops" that run a 30 inch monitor at native resolution.

I think the dell e1705 does as well.

I forget the other.

any laptop in the last couple of years should be capable of 1920x1200

Your computer cannot run it at its native resolution (2560x1600). You can get a VGA to DVI adapter to see how it looks. It won't be pretty though.

with only a VGA plug you absolutely cannot run this monitor at native resolution (2560x1600) from your labtop. If you have a DVI plug built in, then you have a chance of running it, but as stated, only a handful of laptops have the necessary (dual-link DVI) port

my laptop has DVI output but it doesn't support 2560*1600, i hooked up with 24 before and it worked perfect, my lap top vid card supports 1900*1200 and still runs the max on the 15' screen. I was trying to get dell 30 and hook it up on my laptop but i don't think it's feasible. Guess I'll have to spend another 1500 for a new system.

Does your laptop have a dvi and vga or just a dvi?

you shouldn't need an adapter if it has a dual-link DVI port.

my laptop has both and i just checked, it's a dual link DVI port..does that mean i can hook up with the 30 incher? or it still depends on the vid card's max resolution?
