2 video cards running slower than 1 2 video cards running slower than 1

I recently used my Full Tilt points to purchase a 3rd monitor.

I had been running 12 tables on 2 monitors in vista for about 7 months with no lag or problems whatsoever. So i went ahead and bought a 256 mb NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 PCI graphics card to support my third monitor. The card I am using for my other 2 monitors is an ATI Visiontek Radeon x1550 512 mb.

I read that vista had compatibility problems when 2 video cards with different drivers are used so i created a seperate partition and installed xp.

I managed to get all 3 monitors working in xp, but there is noticeable lag now when I have Pokertracker, PAHUD, and Fulltilt running 12 tables.

I dont understand how 2 video cards could somehow slow down my overall performance. Is this because it is a PCI card? Should I take this card back and try and find an ATI PCI card for better compatibility?

Also, I dont know if the fact that my new monitor runs at a different resolution than the other 2 makes a difference.

Overall, my system should be more than capable of running these applications.
All drivers are updated, and here are my other specs:

3 GB Ram
2.8Ghz dual processor

if you need any other specs, it is an HP Pavilion a6230n
